I had a neat idea. I want everyone to talk about what your doing with your life right now and some of the things your into right at this moment. What you think about the world. Maybe you even have a message for the future you. Then in 2 years we bring this thread back so we can see how we were in the past. I know we aren't supose to resurrect old threads but I figure this one would be okay since that is the main point of the thread.
Anyways right now I am basically still feeling trapped with having no way around without a car a
nd while the stress of the OCD and depresion is still here I am currently trying to start a new diet and get more exercise. Plus feeling the urge to cross dress so don't know how that has played out. Looking most forward to "Discovery" on tv. Hope it has worked out for you future, Jason. If however, your in a Trump prison camp I want you to get hold of a copy of "A Brief History in Time" and see if you have a better go at discovering time travel than we did in high school. If you do I want you to come back in time and save me.

If you do this you can stay here and continue my life here, posting on the trekbbs and watching tv and I will go even deeper in the past to when we were doing really great with exercise and make sure that we don't give up like he did. Granted this mean me and you will vanish from this new timeline but the past version of us might be able to handle our problems better than we seem to be able to do.

Jason

that's a cool idea but maybe you talk it over with Bonzie, just in case?

I wonder why people still don't accept male cross dressing. After all, nobody makes any fuzz anymore when a woman wears trousers. Nobody wants to see each other's reproductional organs (unless in certain private moments), but as long as these are covered at all, does it really matter in which way?
I'm not sure if this particular time ought to be remembered at all, what with the whole political world appearing to warp to the extreme right wing and so many new dictators and megalomaniac loonies turning up (and getting elected, even!). I'd rather skip the next years or retire to a different planet.

Since nobody is leaving messages It might be moot. I just figured if a mod didn't like the idea they would tell me.

Jason

If this thread suddenly disappears, will it be because a mod removed it — or because the timeline changed?

It will be from a timeline change. When my future self gets here and I get to go back I plan to to bribe all mods from back then to the present day with future sports scores, making them rich beyond their dreams and they would never dare to close a thread from their golden goose. :)

Jason

In that case I intend to send my future self back to steal the sports scores from your future self at the instant he arrives. I will then place all the bets myself. There will be no recorded evidence of my intent because the timeline changes will eliminate this discussion. Sorry, mods.

Ha! Ha! It's foolproof! Foolproof, I tell you!

I can't be banned for an infraction I haven't committed yet, right?

⏲ Please note there was roughly a 2 year gap between these posts ...

Well it has been two years. I swore more people had posted in it. I hope everyone posts this time so when I bring it up again in 2 years you can check your progress. As for me I seem to have most of the same problems but OCD not quite as bad. Discovery didn't quite work out as well as wanted. Jason

Welcome back :)
For me rather a lot has changed on a personal level as shortly after this thread was started I was diagnosed with diabetes. That meant a lot of alterations in my lifestyle, besides being rather a worst case scenario for a chocoholic. :D
The political trend I was worried about 2 years ago has, alas, continued and will do so for the next decade, I'm afraid. The refugee situation in my town has gotten a good deal easier: people got used to foreigners and though we have a strong neonazi-faction (embarassingly even in the town's government) there is also a major movement against them and most locals are at very good terms with the refugees. Some cultural misunderstandings are rather funny, once explained to all participants (yes, nuns are veiled for religious reasons but sorry, they aren't available on the marriage market). Others are dangerous: apparently there are edible mushrooms in Northern Africa that look exactly like a deadly poisonous sort that grows a lot here.
It'll be interesting to watch how 3 different cultures (Near East, Central Africa and Bavaria) in my town will adapt to each other. The first step has already happened on a rather unexpected front: many locals now use the same perfumed soap that the Syrian refugees seem to prefer (personally, I loathe it - it's too intense for my taste and makes me slightly sick), and the monthly drums workshop is booked out a year in advance: every teenager here wants to learn to play the Djembe :) (heehee, I've bought mine 30 years ago :p)

⏲ Please note there was roughly a 6¼ year gap between these posts ...

I just remembered making this thread a long time ago and I thought it would be fun to bring it back. Also I want everyone to try and add something to it. That way when we bring it back again in a few years, everyone can see what they were thinking at the time.

Anyways for me I still have lots of the same issues as when I made the first post. Though I got a much better handle on my OCD these days. To future Jason who is reading. I hope you have lost the weight I am still trying to loose. Also I hope things are better in the post-Trump future. I am sorry also for all the bad things that have happened to you and will happen to me.

As for everyone on the board, remember this is the me that still wants Star Trek:Legacy, Likes Bernie Sanders and hasn't saved the world yet with one my rambling posts about what we should do to make things better. I guess maybe that happens in a few months. :)

I'm going to try this out. Seems that the mods don't seem to mind. I'm not going to post in this thread for at least two years.

I have changed a lot in the past two years, probably the most throughout the past year - which as of this moment would be 2025. 2025 was a good year but it was a fairly safe year - I didn't really achieve a whole lot on a personal level outside of becoming more open to things.

While yes, there is a lot of things I would like to change in the past. I've mapped it out in my head - what I would do, what people I would avoid. Unless I happen to discover Time Travel, things are as they are. It is what it is. I think that is one of the things that makes our reality unique, is that there is no going back. That creates a sense of novelty which can be either positive or negative depending on your perception of it. Human minds live in their own bubbles, only experiencing things individually. While you do get glimpses into other people's lives, you never truly know all the ins and outs of other people.

By saying what I am saying now, I'm just speaking to myself here. I'm not interested in a political debate or discussion with others based off what I am saying here. We all have our reasons for thinking about things, and I'm outlining my own here. If someone here disagrees with something I say, I kindly ask you to move along.

2025 was the year where I finally let go of any political loyalties and leanings - truly allowing my mind to open up, to embrace what it means to be independent. I've hardened my stances on various issues. There are no saviors coming to save us. Every person has to figure things out for themselves, and we all have to do our do diligence not to fall into group-think or culture warfare. I don't think that the 2028 Election will be any better than the previous ones. Either way, unless something truly drastic happens, I'm not going to vote for the Democrats. I don't like the Republicans either, but there isn't much about the Democrats or their policies that endears me to their cause. All I see is utter hatred on both sides, and no actual pragmatic solutions that will improve the lives of the citizens. Right now, in March of 2026 there is the Iran War - a wasteful, stupid, and silly war for the sake of Israel.

All that money being wasted and lives being killed for nothing makes me sick. I won't vote for anyone with the name "Trump" either, thats for sure. Everyone, even if they don't want to admit it are tired of Trump and just want to move on to something newer. However I don't want that to come at the cost of a truly radical, insane opposition which will burn this country down to the ground in order to defeat Trump. I want common sense thinking that is in line with the Constitution - a limited government, by the people, for the people that is withdrawn from international affairs in order to focus on repairing our issues. The takeaway I have out of all this is that politicians aren't to be trusted whether they be red nor blue. They must be kept under a leash by the people, and for that reason at this time I hope that Thomas Massie wins the GOP nomination over that of Rubio or Vance. Massie is one of the very few Republicans who aren't a cultist and he has my respect for standing up to both parties due to his own principles. Majorie Taylor Greene is someone who I would also consider voting for, she's moved away from the cultist camp, recanted a lot of her earlier points while still maintaining emphasis on "America Only", and maintaining the push against elitism on both sides of the aisle. Later this year in 2026, I'll be voting in the Midterms. Who I will vote for really depends on how the races turn out to be. We'll see. If things continue going as they are now, MAGA is a sinking ship and more and more people will no longer wish to associate with them. I refuse to associate with a political movement which seeks to make the United States a political and economic piggy bank for Israel, a hostile foreign power which has gotten us involved in so much conflict. It isn't America First at this point for me, it is Citizens First. We, the people of this country deserve reasonable healthcare, cheap gas, and the ability to work a single job to support ourselves and our families without living paycheck to paycheck. We the people also deserve to get the government off of our backs, to come to our own evidence based independent conclusions without peer pressure or the constant hero worship that goes about political daily life these days. MAGA has betrayed the foundation of why people voted for them, and I don't expect people to turn out to vote for them in high numbers like before.

Politics aside, 2026 and the following year will likely be years of tremendous personal change and growth on a far more personal level. I seek to get out in the world more, work hard, and keep moving forward. While the past is something I think about a lot, nostalgia is a very comfortable thought for me - I can't live my life based on that. I already have a few plans for the future and I want to also travel more, go on nice vacations, really enjoy life. I don't know what the rest of 2026, 2027, or even 2028 will hold for me, or for the world, but I am reminding myself to take it one day at a time and to focus on what I can actually control.

Well, I don't think I have much grip on this yet, but here's a letter to the me of the future...

Dear future Sophie...

I hope that when you see this again, things are still going well, and in the best case scenario, you WILL get to read and reply to this. But hey, speaking of hope, let me tell you all of the things your past self hopes for you.

I hope your auditions for your school's art program go well. Tell me what you ended up doing? Are you a star now? What kind of things have you done?

I hope you're able to kick those nasty PTSD flashbacks to the curve permanently and be able to travel to the city without having to worry about the elevator malfunctioning or needing a special stair access pass. I hope you get into a nice college (maybe even one out of state) and figure out what you wanna do. Tell me what courses you ended up with (2026 you wants you to try psychology, theatre if you go to that art college, photography, or shakespeare!)

I hope are able to live on your own, whether in an apartment, a condo, or a cute little house!...And I especially hope you have figured out your method of transportation if you're living out of state and your parents can't drive you around anymore (trusted friend? golf cart? ACTUAL DRIVER'S LESSONS!?*) (*highly unlikely)

I hope you've had many more years with your favorite online game, and maybe its still around! Tell me all the things that's happened when you get the chance. And please, also tell me where you got with that multimedia fanfic thingy? Is it still going? Did you complete it? Did you give up in a fit of rage?

And please, if there's anything else, look through that blog and all those old diaries (right now you're halfway through the sparkly butterfly one) and try to catch me up, okay?

sincerely,
2026 Sophie

I would just like to point out that this is a discussion board, and anything that is put out there is fair game for comments/responses. You do not get to set the rules for how others react/respond to what you post here. If you do not want people to respond to something, then the best course of action is not to post it.

Although politics is allowed in Misc, we should still post within the topic of a given thread, and I do feel this is kind of stretching the topic a bit. But if people want to respond in the context of the thread topic, they will be allowed to do so.
