The Final Ongoing Star Trek Box Office Thread

No, We'll almost certainly hit 255. We'll hit 254 by mid point next week and the second runs will slowly mop up that last bit.

And yes, I know Paramount would love TF2 numbers, thats not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about quality. I don't think a horribly reviewed STXII would peform all that well, but I could be wrong. Many people I know that aren't Trekkers, saw STXI because of the good reviews.

A horribly reviewed Trek XII would definitely not do as well. Look at Nemesis. Once all the negative reviews came in, not even Star Trek fans were willing to watch it, resulting in a 40% drop in gross from Insurrection. Of course there were other factors as well, but I'm sure if the film had had even decent reviews, it would have done better.

Nice little bump there. In fact, there hasn't been an increase in gross from a Monday to Tuesday since last month. That's almost as much as it made last Thursday, despite being on over 250 fewer screens. Not bad. :bolian:

Not bad at all. It's per screen average was the highest it's been in two weeks.

So, how much DVD business do you think we'll do? Just curious.

I think people who didn't see it in theaters will buy it! I'm thinking 8 million to 10 million copies. That's...oh another $200-250 million.

RAMA

Porky's made 105 million in 1982 !!! TWOK 78 million. The more things change the more they stay the same................

My same ST II theatre party decided to go to "Porky's" that year and see what all the fuss was about. We had just as much fun, we just weren't in Starfleet uniform at the time!

And years later, we were bemused when both Wyatt Knight and Nancy Parsons (both sides of the shower room tallywacker!) turned up in TNG.

Not to mention Miss "Lassie" Honeywell herself turning up in ST VI (as Valeris), and even Boyd Gaines, who'd played her partner in "Porky's), as a reader of some ST audio novels for Simon & Schuster!

Iron Man sold around 9 million DVDs ($160 million) and probably around 1 million BD (it sold 500k in its first week and I can't find numbers after that.

So, I think 10 million is possible, with probably more sales on BD than Iron Man.

It's per screen average over the last two days has been better than last week's non-weekend days. It's a slow slog to $255 million now, but we might just make it. :bolian:

But it's still considered a hit, right? I'm starting to wonder with all these mega movies coming out (i.e. Transformers, HP).

Oh, it's definitely still considered a hit, especially in light of the less-than-stellar box office returns of the last couple of Trek films.

Losing 198 theaters down to 307 venues...

Good news: My IMAX has it through August 2, and heaven help me, I'm off to see it "one last time" tonight for viewing... 12 I think.

Bless my wife and her understanding. Although it comes with a "quid pro quo" attached, undoubtedly.
