'The Fifth Element' merchandise now available!

Wow, I didn't expect so much hate for The Fifth Element. I always considered it the absolute pinnacle of stupid-awesome movies. I mean, it's clearly not taking itself seriously so why would anyone else?

Plus it's got Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, and some of the best one-liners ever.

There's "not taking it seriously" and there's "so not taking it seriously that the whole thing becomes stupid."

Willis did the former, he's pretty wry in the movie, and Tucker did the latter.

I *like* the movie, it's just not "all that" to me and it would've been much improved without Tucker.

I like Chris Tucker's character. I think he's supposed to be a parody of what popular culture might look like if it continued along the same lines for another 1,000 years or so. He's sort of the Pauly Shore of the year 3,000 or whenever the movie is supposed to be set. Well, Pauly Shore isn't quite right ... Cher, maybe? I don't know.

I can see how some might have found him annoying though.

We can dislike it without taking it seriously, y'know. OIf the Fifth Element simply was funnier with its silliness it'd probably be something I like.

I always saw him as a subversion of the screaming woman in distress stereotype in movies. The kind who trip over their heels when running, get caught by the bad guys, and faint when things get too intense.
Oh, definitely. But just being a subversion doesn't make you funny, I'm afraid.

True, I never thought Starship Troopers was the brilliant satire it's made out to be.

I really like The Fifth Element though, beyond the action and humor and everything, there's stylish designs and fashion, quirky characters and I think the music is cool. I think I'd enjoy it even if Ruby Rhod annoyed me more than he does.

I liked the film, it was fun and even Ruby Rod wasnt that annoying to me. Being a New Yorker I rather liked their take on the city as I did with Heavy Metal's Harry Canyon bit.

I would get the chase diaorama and I think a Multi-pass would be neat too. I like em! Thanks for the post!

I want to see more kits, like

  1. The Floston Paradise hotel/spacecraft model
  2. The Federated Territories heavy cruiser
  3. The Floshton Paradise shuttlecraft
  4. Zorg's spacecraft
  5. President Lindberg's limo
