The Far Side - Two questions

I love the ones with bears- especally the one where it's the last note left by the scientist decoding the bear language - "Zp? Zipp? Zipper?"

^ I like the one where a bear is getting up from sleep and he finds that he's in a coffin with all his friends mourning. He says "For crying out loud, I was HIBERNATING! Don't you guys ever take a pulse?" :guffaw:

I like the one where there's a news report with an informant in a darkened room, to protect his identity. Then as the reporter cuts to him, the janitor walks in and turns on the light.

Ted said:1. We're looking through the scope of a rifle. One bear is grinning nervously and pointing for the hunter to shoot the other bear. (I still have that mug)

I had the shirt. Faded after ten years. Some of my favorites:

"Kemosabe, the music, the music!"

"We're going to the vet, Rusty! I'm going to get tutored!"

"Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear."

I worked for a gifted children's center at ASU-We had copies of the poor kid pushing the pull door on all of the office doors to remind the teachers that just because they're gifted doesn't mean they get everything right.

I always liked the one that had the scene in the bar, a bunch of men at one table and elephants at the other, but it looks like a little fray just happened, and one guy and one elephant are ready to duke it out,and there's even a table turned over. Anyway, another elephant is trying to hold his friend back, saying, "Easy easy. I'm sure he didn't know you were an elephant when he told that joke."

LOL reminds me of all the times I was told Polish or Ethiopian jokes as a kid

I like the one where the farmer walks in on the cows that have a diagram of a human with different sections for cuts, like one of those cow meat diagrams. The farmer is stunned into silence and everything is quiet, somewhere in the distance a dog barks.

There is another where you have two pictures of a master talking to his dog. One picture has "What you say" with the master shouting something at his dog, the second picture has "What your dog hears" and it is all "blah, blah, blah, Ginger, blah, blah, blah, blah, Ginger, blah blah."

^ that's a good one!

The only non-Far Side comic that had a similar format that I thought approached his brilliance is one that had two devils discussing something. One of them sneezes, and the other says "God bless you.. err sorry!"

The one with the guy toting a wheel barrow while whistling, and one devil tells the other, "We're just not getting through to him."

I can clearly remember standing in a bookstore in the early '80s and just not being able to stop laughing at one panel:

Two children are watching TV. Behind their backs, a man is walking in the door. In his hands, he carries an enormous, bizarre, impossibly monstrous-looking spider. His wife looks on. The caption:

"Shh! I want to surprise the kids!"

Not sure of the exact wording:

Airline Pilot: Oh no! The fuel light is on! We're out of fuel! We're all going to die! Oh wait, never mind. That's just the intercom light.

This is my favorite:

I had it on a mug, but it broke a long time ago. :(

The "cat fud" and Mountain Goat in the clouds were great, too!

Some of the best cartoons were more dark than funny- like anything to do with nuclear war- like the television playing "This is a test" after the bombs have already dropped, or the fishermen watching a bomb from the lake (SCREW THE LIMIT!).

I've always liked the one that showed the two guys working on the innards of a large bomb, and there's a third guy standing behind them about to pop an inflated paper bag. I think because I worked with ordnance in the Army, I've always found this especially funny.

My Favorite pannel(s) was in a book, in the chapter of Un-Published( Not submitted to newspapers).
It was set in an operating room
The doctor was about to cut the umbilical cord.
he was saying(something like)
"Now as we cut the cord of life you begin.."
In the next pannel the new born infant flies off like a deflating baloon.

I wish I could find the book or remember what it was called, I'd scan it and post it.

The unreleased one I liked was with a dead body sprawled at a piano keyboard. There are people at the door, and one of them says "Shhhh! The Maestro is decomposing!"

My favorite has always been a panel of two snakes lying side by side in a bed together. The one on the left is asleep, and the one on the right has had a knot tied in him, and he's yelling "Charlie Horse!"

I like the one where the mother is upstairs telling her son: "Are you going to sleep? Or am I going to have to stomp three times and call the floating head of death?" The father is downstairs holding a balloon with a scary face on it just waiting for the stomps.

There is also the scientists trying to find out if dolphins can talk. One scientist says to the other: "It's another one of those 'Ah-Blah-S-Pan-yoll' sounds."

The scientist were almost always funny.

The one tapping a bolt into a nuclear missile, while the other is behind him ready to pop a paper bag.

The ones that were trying to come up with new sayings. One scientist is about to pour something on a duck, the chalk board behind him has things that read, "like milk off a ducks back", "like beer off a ducks back" and crossed out is "like hydrochloric acid off a ducks back".

There's more, too many more.
