THAT'S what I was thinking of the whole time I saw that sequence! I kept thinking "this reminds me of something". Yes, it reminded me a lot of the end of TMP when Ilia takes them to the V'Ger core.
The movie reminded me of Squid Game season 3 most of the time.

Probably not, Feige and co have already said that doing a soft reboot, technically they called it a "reset" but it sounds like it'll be a soft reboot, after Secret Wars, and most people are assuming one of the changes is that the FF will be moving over to Earth 616/The Sacred Timeline.
That's strike 2 buddy.

Sue FTW!

That was damn enjoyable. Vanessa really does steal the movie in a lot of ways. The production/set design folks deserve an Oscar. The characters and their interactions worked for me. Galactus was actually menacing. Loved Johnny being the one who worked on the linguistics enough to get to Shalla-Bal's conscience. Ben's beard weirded me out a little. The space scenes were awesome. Loved Mole Man!

Overall, I gave it an A. It made me happy.

I'd be pretty disappointed if the FF are sidelined somewhat because of the box office on this. By "sidelined" I guess I mean treated like the Hulk has been since his second solo movie- always featured, but never the star.

The box office on First Steps isn't bad, by any means. But they put everything they had into this, after two versions with other casts. The terrible Trank version was a deep hole they had to climb out of. And they're not seeing the returns they hoped for. It doesn't seem as likely now that they'll get a second MCU movie that's just all about them.

But that wasn't a result of The Incredible Hulk's box office takes. That was a result of the complicated rights issues surrounding the Hulk.

I think part of the inherent problem the movie has is everyone is talking about the FF ‘s place in Marvel crossovers. Not their own adventures.

Which is similar position after Batman v Superman. Everyone was talking Justice League and those characters solo films. The DCEU less then Superman himself.

Compared to Superman 2025. Early concerns that the Justice Gang characters would overshadow Superman himself. That did not happen. While their is genuine enthusiasm for Guy Gardener and Mr Terrific, there is a level of excitement for this specific Superman but also the very idea of Superman I have not seen in a very long time.

I am completely biased no doubt but did this Fantastic Four movie make the public excited about these characters outside of them being part of the MCU?

It never occurred to me that Galactus destroying their Earth was a fan theory until my comic book shop owner said so after the trailer. That was before Thunderbolts or not? My reply was odd way to introduce them with major failure. I was right. Still it was major expectation all to setup crossovers. Even Dr Doom at end is really about greater Marvel multiverse not that he is their main archenemy.

I'm going to be honest, I much preferred Thunderbolts and think it was the superior movie in all respects.
Hmm I never saw it. I almost did. But for too long I have seen some Marvel movies out of habit than real interest. I do like some of the cast but never watched some of the tv shows it spun off from. So did not bother. FF was one I actually was excited about and but mostly left me cold.

Basically, Fantastic Four felt very....stock. Vanilla. Safe.

Thunderbolts didn't have a great plot but it had a lot of character and feelings.
