The Fall of Joss Whedon

You're not qualified to make that kind of determination.

Unless a person's conduct is actually criminal and is prosecuted as such, no-one has a right to pass judgment on said conduct.

Oh, come on. For one example, picking your nose in public is not a criminal offense, but Western society does make judgements about those who commit the act, like other behaviors considered immoral, or generally disgusting. Few stand as stone pillars who do not offer an opinion or hold a belief about behavior believed to be unacceptable.

If somebody doesn't make judgments of behavior that's sketchy that's worse than not pressing charges for actual criminal behavior. Telling a jerk, predator or bully their behavior is revolting is one of the easiest things a person can do to stand up for what's morally and ethically right and if we won't do that I don't hold out much hope that the criminal justice system will deal effectively with violent and abusive people.

It seems Whedon was a jackass for a long time, and he finally picked the wrong fight with Gal Gadot. Careers come and go, his seems to be going. So he'll go live in his big house with his millions of dollars.

I just don't have any pity for him.

The "cancel culture" is real. I hope they don't come for you.
I don't like cancel culture either. I mean I don't talk about it much but that's how I feel but I do think their is a huge difference between someone being cancelled for jokes or political opinions or any sort of wrong thinking people want to punish someone for and someone being abusive, especially in a work setting. Also when the person being abusive is the boss. Of course if it's not true he should be okay and even if it is then he still someday can maybe have a redemptive comeback but it's also very unlikely he will ever get the same kind of universal love he had or become the level of star he used to have. Even Mel Gibson is no longer seen like the old Mel Gibson was.

Yeah, I'm about at the point where he can go **** himself. I don't need to know the whole story for "context." You don't need to read all of a Judith Krantz novel to know that somebody gets laid and characters have arguments.

About Braga and sex parties: Bryan Singer's career slowly started to unravel through the 2010s when rumours of his seedy sex parties gained steam and it then trailed off to his alleged even more horrible sex offences...

Have you seen Joss Whedon's behavior towards his colleagues? And does a series of partial stories told or mentioned about him less heartening?

Exactly.

Like I also haven't directly heard or seen Noel Clarke's allegedly similarly appalling behaviour around the NuWho production and acting/producing career in the years following, just the anecdotes and testimonials of grubby little incidents happening long before Trump was elected (but it's still also very disappointing to read about and I blame Noel Clarke for his implied pattern of bad behaviour, when he made dozens of enemies speaking out against him).

Narcissism (or even sociopathy) and spoilt self-entitlement doesn't mix well with the internets, where it becomes near impossible to bury rumours, with victims given much more of a voice than they did only twenty years ago.

So if I just avoid racism, bigotry, and sexual harassment and/or assault, I’ll be fine? Ok.
Lots of other things can get you cancelled but it depends on whether or not it's interesting enough to go trending. Remember all hand signals are now racist except the middle finger so only give people the middle finger if they start filming you or else you will offend them.

Boy is that the laziest of comebacks.

Wake up call time. People have been "canceling" each other since time immemorial over behavior they didn't like, legal or not. I bet not a single person on this board could live up to the OTT "glass houses" standard being proposed here. Not. One.

Which implies a correlation between hosting sex parties and committing horrible sex offenses. False Cause Fallacy. Go directly to Debate Jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect 200 dollars.

A lot of today's "cancel culture" is rooted in genuine offense and legal wrong doing, but a lot of it also too subjective and takes on the feel of a roving lynch mob.

To certain extent, I believe there is some degree of correlation between sex parties and darker sex offences, though in the cases of Singer and Epstein, they seemingly used sex parties more of a mask for their more errant behaviour (rather than sex parties being the "gate way" to the non consensual stuff).
