Pretty much this. It will likely be about Falcon turning into Captain America.

If there's a second season, it may get renamed.

It's not a shift. He hasn't become Captain America yet, he was only given the shield which doesn't mean he instantly starts using the name Captain America. The show will probably tell the story of his shift from Falcon to Captain America.

There are only 6 episodes; that's not enough narrative time to show him "shift" from Falcon to Captain America.

And getting the shield from Steve was the "shift"; he stopped being Falcon and became Captain America the instance he took hold of the shield.

Only if you're a bad writer.

Only in name. As Sam said, he felt like it belonged to someone else. Over the course of the six episodes, he can work on earning the feeling that it does belong to him.

By that definition it would be literally impossible to show that shift in any movie. That's a ridiculous definition.

And getting the shield was obviously not the shift. It was just getting the shield - the promise of a shift to come. He still has to figure out what to do with it.

    This is false.

    I disagree.

Yes, he has to still 'find his way' as Captain America, but the moment he was given the shield, he became that character and ceased to be Falcon.

Dick didn't continue on as Nightwing after reluctantly accepting the mantle of Batman in the aftermath of Batman R.I.P. and the Battle for the Cowl storyline even though it took him a little while to 'find his feet' and figure out what he was going to do in that role that was different to what Bruce had done.

They should have cast her as Jessica Drew, then. Heh.

First Avenger did a good job in 2 hours showing how Steve Rogers became a bullied "wimp" to Superhero and Leader of other heroes in 2 hours. If written correctly..it can be done.

I am also hoping Sam's work as military veteran counselor will come into play as well in helping Bucky get back to "normal"

One last thing...so where does Sebastian Stan fall in his 9 picture deal with Marvel?

unknown if this is the real deal or just fan speculation, but it seems to indicate what the series will be about

Smith wondered if Falcon would become Captain America in the new show. Bernadin confirmed.

“That, I think, is the crux of what that show’s going to be,” Bernadin says. “The government doesn’t want Sam Wilson to be Captain America.”

There's nothing super spoilerish here and it's nothing surprising, but just in case...

And this production team has eight hours. It might be enough.

    Stranger Things s1 had 8 episodes ( s2 9 and s3 8)

The idea you can't get a lot done in 8 episodes is a ridiculously antiquated view of the medium of tv.

It all comes to how the show is written and structured.

The original Star Wars trilogy clocked in at 377 minutes. 6 hours, 17 minutes. They will have more time than that to tell this story.

Pretty much it.. while Steve Rogers made that codename what it is decency, morals, standing up for what's right (basically "Plant yourself like a tree" as Sharon Carter said during Peggy Carter's eulogy) - these are universal superhero character traits so Sam Wilson already fits into the role of Captain America. He became a member of Caps' innermost circle in record time and i don't believe Rogers is a bad judge of character.

So he is already Captain America at his core, it's just that he needs to find his own version of that hero moniker (and his own fighting style.. looking forward to the training montage, should be both hilarious and awesome).

This Maxiseries will be the length of like 3 or 4 MCU movies. That's plenty of time.

As others have pointed out, Captain America: The First Avenger did that in one film (from hopeful, untested civilian to super soldier taking on the Red Skull/Hydra, et al.). That was one film; this 6-episode series will have the running time of three, so that is more than enough time to explore the struggles of Sam becoming the second Cap (and Bucky's feelings about that).
If true, I REALLY like that idea, as wrestles with the resistance I touched on before, only I thought it would come from the average citizen. Potentially real human drama.
Agreed, but others are driven by agenda or shortsighted, so they will not see the heart/purpose in Sam than Steve did from the jump, thus Sam might end up resenting those who doubt him (in the face of his now long service as the Falcon).

I'm wondering if this whole "the government doesn't want Sam to be Captain America" thing will be a way to introduce the government's version of Captain America, say a character like John Walker, AKA U.S. Agent.

And they can use Zemo in the Red Skull's place in that story, where he made sure the Government-approved Cap was a murderous lunatic who'd ruin the name and image of Captain America.

Possibly, but I would hope its deeper than "our Cap is better than yours / you need not apply" and end up in some sort of fight where Sam has to prove himself. If he did, Sam--no fan of government approval / control as seen in The Winter Soldier and Civil War--would not care to put on a show for dignity, or justify Steve's choice to anyone.

Kind of hope they throw in a reference to Jeffrey Mace (that he would've been good as Captain America) and his death.

It occurs to me that the MCU versions of Sam and Helmut are more evenly matched in at least one area: psychological skills. Zemo in psychological warfare, Sam in psychological therapy...
