The Experience - Anyone know a reopening date?

I'm going to be making my first trip to Las Vegas with a few friends at the end of May of this year. One of my biggest attractions had always been to go see Star Trek The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton, which is now unfortunately closed down. I read a Trek Today article though that suggested it may be back at a different location by early 2009 however. That article was written late 2008 though so I wondered if anyone knows any more details now. I'm not feeling super optimistic, but if it were there, it would make the trip all the better.

Lucky you, sounds like you`re going just in time! I really hope Quark`s is part of the new one. I`ve never been to The Experience and after getting into DS9 recently, that`s what I`d be most interested in checking out if I ever went to it.

They're tentatively looking at beginning a re-opening in stages by May 8. How long the phased re-opening is expected to take is not known. Some of the regular visitors to the old Experience may know of a website tracking it specifically, but I'd say keep your eye on TrekToday and TrekMovie.com.

As the unofficial STTE pimp, there are a couple of threads in this General Trek Forum that are about as up-to-date as we've gotten so far. Look for the threads "For fans of Star Trek: The Experience" and "What would you change in the new Star Trek: The Experience" (or something like that). I think they're both tagged with "stte".

The quick and dirty story is that the current owners hope to have Quark's and retail (perhaps even the museum) opened by May 8th. Other parts of the Experience will reopen in phases with the whole thing expected to be completed by summer 2010. However, sources of mine close to those in charge indicate that the economic slowdown has also caused problems with financing so that even that limited reopening may be delayed. OTOH, there has been a lot of positive buzz in the last couple of weeks following stories appearing in the Las Vegas Sun and elsewhere. Bottom line is we'll have to wait and see.
