Re: The Expendables (Stallone, Statham, Li, Lundgren) Grading & Discus

I can't believe the good reviews it's getting. I thought it was complete rubbish. I really wasn't expecting much just a fun action movie but it was so generic I was bored, even during the action scenes. I do like action films but something about this one didn't work, didn't seem to work for most of the audience at the showing I was at either.
That said I really do seem to be the odd one out, so whatever, guess I just missed something or wasn't in the right mood when I saw it. Might give it another chance if any friends ask me to go along to see it.

It's not getting good reviews. It's practically split 50/50 from the professional reviewers.

This thread has what? 75% good reviews, when I looked before seeing the film it had averages 7.7/10 on imdb, and generally favourable reviews elsewhere, that seems to have lowered somewhat on metacritic but it's still 7.5 on IMDB.

Re: The Expendables (Stallone, Statham, Li, Lundgren) Grading & Discus

That's pretty damn good considering on the IMDB the Scott Pilgrim fans were trolling the Expendables movie before it even came out stating that they all gave Expendables one star. You would think that would hurt it's overall rating. I guess so damn few saw Scott Pilgrim that they weren't able to hurt The Expendables overall rating in the least. All the people I know who have seen Expendables loved it so I guess that says something about it.

Re: The Expendables (Stallone, Statham, Li, Lundgren) Grading & Discus

^Are you just assuming fans of Scott Pilgrim can't also like action films like The Expendables?

Re: The Expendables (Stallone, Statham, Li, Lundgren) Grading & Discus

Nope. I'm talking about the Scott Pilgrim fans who were trolling the Expendables boards. There were many who liked both movies.

Re: The Expendables (Stallone, Statham, Li, Lundgren) Grading & Discus

That's pretty damn cool.

Clint Eastwood actually wanted to do a movie with John Wayne, whom he was friends with. Kind of a young guy, old guy thing. But Wayne greatly disliked Pale Rider (I think it was that film) because of the portrayel of the Old West. It's a shame...those two should have been in a movie together.

It was actually High Plains Drifter. Wayne actually told Eastwood that it destroyed all the good values that Westerns should have.

High Plains Drifter. Thanks!

^^^^
That's the movie where he renames the town 'Hell', right?

I like some John Wayne movies but he fooled himself if he thought the Old West was a way of life that only had good values. Lots of sullen and dirty values were prominent during that time.

Shame Wayne and Eastwood should've been in a movie together.

Re: The Expendables (Stallone, Statham, Li, Lundgren) Grading & Discus

Wayne sounds like Adam West complaining that the Batman movies weren't family-friendly like his TV show.

Yep, thats the one.

His attitude seemed to be very prevalent at the time. That the Western genre was a sacred embodiment of great American values. It being much more about the myth than the reality.

Re: The Expendables (Stallone, Statham, Li, Lundgren) Grading & Discus

Just seen it. Disjointed for the first half, fuckin awesome for the rest.

Could have used some spaceships.

Exactly my take on it.

Just saw it too with some friends and the first half or so is forgettable up to embarrasing with a few exceptions(the speech by Tool about his experience in Bosnia was just cringe inducing).

When they invade the island for real with the whole team though.. i thought i'd need a cigarette after it was finished :techman::techman:

It was ages ago since i experienced an audience cheering and clapping loudly at a scene but when Terry Crews let loose his automatic shotgun and clear the corridor the crowd went nuts.
I nearly blacked out from laughing so hard.. that scene is made of pure awesome!

So i'll be definitely looking forward to the sequel.. maybe they can get some new names for it.. Van Damme, Seagal, Norris, Michael Dudikoff (remember him?).
God that would be so awesome!

Re: The Expendables (Stallone, Statham, Li, Lundgren) Grading & Discus

Expendables had a respectable drop in its 3rd weekend to place 3rd with $9.5m thus raising its total to $82million US domestic. That also puts it over its production budget of $80m and it hasn't even opened in any overseas markets yet.

This is now a certifiable hit for all involved in the project. With weekday totals it is going to pass Stallone's last movie to gross this high which was Cliffhanger in 1993 which made $84million US domestic.

This is Jason Stathams's second biggest hit to date with the Italian Job being his best showing, again an ensemble film, taking in $106million US domestic.

^Yes it has opened internationally. Well at least here in the UK.

Well the #s haven't been tracked yet on BOM. You'll notice on the Expendables page there is a '0' in the foregin totals column. There is usually a week to 10 day lag, when did open over there?
