^^^^
That sounds like something Aragorn would have said. LOL!

Stallone wants to bring the crew back, add some new guys (he specifically mentioned Van Damme) and have them go after Bruce Willis as the villain.

Well that has to be the dumbest film I've ever seen!

Loved it :D

I was kinda hoping that it would be a more Hollywood version of the Wild Geese, but in the end it did what it said on the tin, who can complain at that. I don't think I've seen so many explosions in one film!

Anyone know if Frederick Forsythe will get any royalties because this was, up to a point, The Dogs of War!

Curious that given he had third billing there didn't seem to be much Li in it, and I hope we get more Dolph in the next one. Hanging a pirate indeed! :guffaw:

Def need more Arnie and Bruce next time out as well.

The only bit I didn't like was Austin's character being a man not averse to hitting a woman, Stone Cold's form in that area meant it left a bad taste.

The big test for an action film like this is rewatchability, and initial impressions this isn't as quotable as, say, Commando--that said it's probably worth another watch if only for Dolph and Statham.

The link wouldn't load...So would Willis be playing "Mr. Church" again?

I thought Willis was very good in the four minutes he was in the film.

Be cool if they got The Rock too.

Van Damme is too in love with direct-to-DVD obscurity I think...

The premise for the sequel was pretty much outlined in the scene with Stallone, Statham and Li where they review all the info for the job...

Schwarzenegger, The Rock and Van Damme for the sequel and I'm so there. Nah, I'm so there anyway.

In Stallone We Trust

I saw The Expendables yesterday. I didn't go alone. I went to see it with my best male friend and his teenage son. No vaginas allowed. This movie requires testosterone. Testosterone requires manly men. Thus the complete lack of quif.

What can I say? The theater was cramped. Full. Full of men. Manly men. Waiting. Waiting to be transported back to the golden era of the 1980s. Hoping... Hoping the magic of Rambo... Of Commando... Of Die Hard... Of Lethal Weapon... Of a million and one DTV action movies could be rekindled on the big screen.

We were not disappointed. The Expendables was a rip roaring, rollicking action extravaganza. Biceps, blood and guts were the order of the day and we loved it. Yes I realize I'm speaking for everybody in the audience but when something works it's obvious. There was laughter, gasps of surprise and manly commentary all through the movie.

The Expendables may be a loser with the critics but it is a surefire winner with the audiences. The movie had us sucked in from the moment Dolph Lundgren blew that Somali pirate in two and didn't let us go 'til the end credits.

Speaking of Dolph he's given me my favorite sound byte from the movie: "It's good to hang pirates."

I wish I was in Sly Stallone's vicinity so I could thank his for the Expendables. It isn't great film but it's a great movie. There can be no higher compliment. These last four years Stallone has made his movies for the fans and it shows.

Bring on The Expendables 2!

Re: The Expendables (Stallone, Statham, Li, Lundgren) Grading & Discus

Critics are nuts.

Rottentomatoes for instance: gave Tango & Cash 39%, just like The Expendables. And I like Tango & Cash pretty much. Rambo 4 got only 36%, just like Rambo III, and what a hell of a good ride these movies have been. Rambo: First Blood Part II got only 30%, and that's one of the best action movies of all time.

Eraser, 34%, Red Heat, 53%.

Die Hard with a Vengeance, 48%. But Shit like Die Hard 4 gets 82%. What the hell. The Last Boyscout, 43%.

My favorite action movies almost always have a very low rating.

The Expendables is pretty solid.

What did they give Demolition Man? That was a Stallone film I liked a lot.

Re: The Expendables (Stallone, Statham, Li, Lundgren) Grading & Discus

I thought this movie was disappointing. Too generic and forgetable even for a movie that's about stuff blowing up. The cast was disappointing too. I hope they can pull together a real dream cast next time around. Everyone of note was reduced to a cameo.

Re: The Expendables (Stallone, Statham, Li, Lundgren) Grading & Discus

Expendables was once again #1 for the weekend. Even against 5 new films the Expendables blew away the competition, kinda like bad guys in a fictional dictatorship!!
Taking in $16.5m it's total now stands at $64million on an $80m budget. It'll make profit I just hope they crank another one out while the interest is high and they can sign a Norris, VinDiesel, Jackie Chan and Snipes(who must be out finally, saw he's shooting a filmin November).

Re: The Expendables (Stallone, Statham, Li, Lundgren) Grading & Discus

Saw it today. Meh. Poor mans Rambo (4)

Statham & Lundren's "acting" was hilarious though.
But I wouldn't bother watching it again.

Fan-made (obviously), but thought some of you might appreciate it:

Re: The Expendables (Stallone, Statham, Li, Lundgren) Grading & Discus

That's pretty damn cool.

Clint Eastwood actually wanted to do a movie with John Wayne, whom he was friends with. Kind of a young guy, old guy thing. But Wayne greatly disliked Pale Rider (I think it was that film) because of the portrayel of the Old West. It's a shame...those two should have been in a movie together.
