You want a few harmless swear words removed so more children can be exposed to graphic violence?
That's mighty morally superior of both you and Chuck

We'll see.
We'll see.
Depends whether they've dubbed over swears with other stupid melonfarming words, or whether by "screenplay" it means they just didn't shoot/record said words.
I just saw the original over Christmas and I loved it. I quite dig Sully Erna's Sinner's Prayer as well which was apparently not part of the theatrical version. Looking forward to this movie!
I highly doubt it was the insistence of Chuck bloody Norris that caused this though, more like dollar signs in Studio Execs eyes.
I'll wait for the unrated Blu-Ray.

When Bruce Willis says in the trailer "I could have put you in the deepest, darkest. Hole." I would have sworn that they cut out profanity.
This all reminds me of Die Hard 4. But the good thing is that the rating wasn't my problem with Die Hard 4. There weren't so many scenes in The Expendables that got the R-rating. And most of it was fake CGI blood trickery, which made me cringe most of the time when I saw it.
Although nothing is as funny as him telling everyone that Van-Damme gives a great, emotional performance. Nobody believes that and nobody cares.
I was going to post.. but you took the words otu of my mouth. Usually I don't mind when a film is PG-13.. that means cutting around the violence and thereby heightening the suspense. But in this case you are dead on accurate. This is not an art film, it's a film for us, who grew up with these stars!I highly doubt it was the insistence of Chuck bloody Norris that caused this though, more like dollar signs in Studio Execs eyes.

I suspect that's the case as well. I recall hearing that the studio originally wanted the last Rambo to be PG-13. A few years ago, Aliens vs Predators was reduced to a PG-13 rating, despite the fact both franchises had alweays been R-rated ones. I doubt that Chuck Norris, who is practically an infomercial actor at this point, was the deciding factor.
Whoevers idea this was, it's a bad one. This is supposed to be an action film (a violent one) catering to fans who grew up watchign these guys act. I think it's safe to say kids don't give a shit about most of these actors. The older fans made it a hit, allowing a sequel to be made.
I had to laugh at Stallone trying to reassure people that this film has a real emotional tone...nobody is going to see this film for the acting, jackass. Only seeing big action stars of the past doing violent things. Although nothing is as funny as him telling everyone that Van-Damme gives a great, emotional performance. Nobody believes that and nobody cares.
Is an R rating really that big a deal? Gore and a few fucks thrown in won't improve any action scenes. You could make a fantastic action movie with a G rating if you tried hard enough.
Not only that, most of the fight scenes would have been heavily cut. No neck breaks, no arm breaks, and all of Jason Statham's knife fights would make no sense without the blood. Steve Austin burning (despite being a horrible CG effect) would have been cut, so would have been Eric Robert's death. I also think that the waterboarding scene would have had to be cut or at least shortened. There's also the scene with Sly cutting one guy's arm and head off.The producer intended the first movie to be PG-13 too. Take out all the horrible CGI blood, the scene with Terry Crews and his shotgun, the scene with Dolph Lundgren shooting the pirate in half, and the Bruce Willis swearing (which was filmed well after the main movie wrapped), The Expendables is PG-13.
