The Equinox Effect

Have you heard about the ‘The Equinox Effect’ a Star Trek fan production? There is not much information on this yet, but here is what I have found out so far, but hopefully people here will know more about this then I do.

It is being made by ‘The Federation Files’ fan group who have already made several fan productions. Glen L. Wolfe (producer for Continues, Phase II and many other fan productions) is behind the project, and I have noticed that he has a good reputation for finishing what he starts.

From what I can gather from reading Facebook posts, the idea is to utilize lost footage from the nearly completed, yet aborted fan production ‘Equinox: The Night of Time’ (which was discussed here), by integrating it into ‘The Federation Files’ story themes. John Savage, Gary Lockwood and Garrett Wang are no longer involved in the project as this would not be compliant with the fan film guidelines; although I am not clear if they will still feature in the “lost footage” or will be recast.

^Yes, that is the Renegades set (which they used with permission), but it is only green screen, looks good though. Apparantly this picture is from Act 3 of the film. Source: Facebook

^They are using a body double for the Blanca Blanco character, Lt. Cmdr. T'Lexa, in order to create additional scenes. Her face will not appear on screen. Source: Facebook

^Hopefully the lost footage they will be using will be much better quality then the original teaser for ‘Equinox: The Night of Time’. Please note that the people working on this fan production are not the same people as those who made this teaser.

This looks interesting but that teaser is godawful!
Yep, there was so much promise with the original Equinox production and many who had donated to the project were disappointed. I think it cost $12k to make that ! But please note that the people working on this fan production are not the same people as those who made the teaser and I have edited my original post to make this clearer. I have hope that the 'The Federation Files' team, who always seem able produce fan films to a much better standard, with much smaller budgets, feel that their is a good story in there somewhere that can be salvaged.

'Equinox, A Night in Time' was at the time in post-production (if i recall correctly), but never released. Hopefully the plan is to take what was good, leave out the bad, and incorporate their own footage into this production. As far as I am aware it is unusual when another fan group takes on another failed fan film and does this sort of thing with it. I have no idea if this project will turn our good or bad, but it will be interesting to see what they do with it.
I've seen worse.

"You must have traveled back thru space." I think she meant "back thru time".
or "space and time". I think they acknowledged their mistake at the time and partly blamed it on the actress who spoke English as a second language. However the production team should have picked up on it on the day of shooting.

I really don't understand why they want to revive Equinox, which had to be one of the worst-produced, worst-directed and worst-acted fan films of the last decade. I still get PTSD from Blanca Blanco's line readings (seriously, that can't be her actual birthname. If it is she should sue her parents).
I hate to be this negative against such an easy target, but honestly Glen Wolfe and his crew should channel their energies onto better stories that actually have something to say (I highly doubt the original Equinox director had one in mind).

I enjoyed it. Reworked the Equinox footage well and a nice little crossover of several series with good familiar characters

I'm watching this, and I don't mean any disrespect, but the M'Ress costume made me laugh. Might have been better to just have had a human there.

The furry mittens are what makes it especially comical.

The film really is a mess. It's a bunch of random bits that don't go anywhere except to show "ohs nos history haz changed!" except for Data figuring out what happened and pressing Control-Alt-Delete. I realize they probably used every bit of Equinox footage they had, but it's just a dead-end narrative branch that uses up time (ha ha) to no effect.

I think it was a worthy try, it was flawed, but I mostly enjoyed it. Twenty-five minutes seemed to be all that could be wrung out of the story.

Well - the big conceit the writers made was Data NOT just asking to display the history of the Guardian Base - see when she went in, then re-displaying the history of the station again, and having him step through (via the 'stop' command they discovered) and you get the same result.

I call it a conceit because Data would be smart/calculating enough to realize this the FIRST time - and not do the most complicated thing (IE - Trying to compare 100 years of Federation history while the Borg are overhead firing on the Base) and then going - "Oh...this is easier/simpler/more assured of complete success).

Because of the Virus, I finally had time to see this thing...

Holy mackerel...

Did someone read my earlier comment about Blanca Blanco and her terrible acting? They had someone dub over her like it was Flash Gordon...It wasn`t that much better, but it was funny to listen to...
I loved the body double shots with ''John Savage'' and his giant bald spot walking the corridors with Blanco V2.
I really don`t know why Glen Wolfe went ahead with established Trek characters like Sulu, Kirk(?), Picard and all the others...why would you do that to yourselves? was it that unthinkable to choose another Constitution ship?
Actually the Spock doppelganger wasn`t that bad at all...
But horrible was that...shot? with the Data lookalike talking with the bald whoever-that-was, jump cuts on steroids and for about one minute both actors facing away from the camera...
That lady scientist wins the Ed Wood prize.
On a more positive note: that science console was really nice, and I wish I had those screen graphics. I still don`t understand how Ransom`s story works with how they ''resolved it'', but maybe it`s for the best as that original royal mess never had a chance of being finished in any coherent form...
Whoever directed this needs to go back to film school...
