the episode Timeless...

Lucy of Nine

Commander

Is it just me who gets totally confused with all the time travel stuff? LOL... if the future never happened then how could Harry watch the video at the end of himself in the future... argh I have a headache! :)

Timeless is my favorite VOY ep!

As to the tape we've already seen elsewhere in the Trek-verse that not everything is erased when a time line is changed. Because.. resets aren't as interesing, LOL

Voyager seemed to take the 'Temporal Mechanics; Don't confuse people by trying to live by it's logic'.

The anomaly of the message has to exist in story logic though. If by sending a message to the past you change the course of time, if you no longer existed then you wouldn't exist to send that message... therefor the accident wouldn't be reversed... then that future would exist...

Parallels in TNG goes by the theory accepted in Trek of alternate timelines - which works, but it would raise the question for Future Harry... if he didn't stop existing, would he know it was a sucsess?

I go by the Janeway logic, "Don't try to make sense of it" the time travel paradox gave her a headache also.

Resistance is Futile

Yes, time travel stories almost never hold up to any sort of logical analysis. If there's any kind of emotional payoff, then I guess it's worth it, but typically the inclusion of time travel boils down to a way for creators to have their cake and eat it too. I think I'm all full of cake, myself.

My theory is that temporal paradoxes can be explained by invoking the notion of parallel universes. The Kim whose mistake killed everyone on Voyager lives in a universe that always will exist, despite the fact that he corrected the mistake.

Ah! I like that explanation! :)

The message came via Seven's temporal node lobe thing, so maybe it exists outside of time.

Was it not a Borg Temporal Transponder that was found in the wreakage of a Cube, that allowed Harry to communitcate with Seven 15 years in the past.

Well, seeing as how the Delta Flyer in that timeline blew up with him on board, he'll never know whether or not his timeline continues. ;)

I'm going to have to watch Voyager again at some point - I haven't seen eps such as this one since it first aired and am slowly forgetting such things :(

I suggest you read Roberto Orci's latest interview about the new Trek film about temporal mechanics, he refers to the theory of quantum mechanics (which Data explains in the TNG episode "Parallels") that there are many alternate timelines and so the original "Endgame" and "Harry Kim 15 years time reject Timeless" timelines can both exist at the same time and we are just seeing a message from that timeline.

I'd go with temporal shields, temporally protected pockets of space, and other temporal plot hole fixes!
