The Enterprise under construction

Did anyone else see - or, like me, NOT see - the Enterprise under construction in the movie? It's in the scene after the bar fight, when Kirk motors out to the space dock and stares contemplatively down at the lights. The lights that form the shape of the Enterprise under construction.

Honest to God, I saw the movie 7 times and never realized what Kirk and I were looking at. Not until I read the novelization did I see it! :brickwall:

Also "1701" on the shuttle bay (very top, left corner):

The aforementioned pylon; it's dark due to segue to Narada scene:

Wait...wait...are you saying you didn't know it was a ship or didn't know it was the Enterprise? :wtf:

I didn't know it was either one! I just thought it was, you know, working lights of the ship yard. OY is right. But in my defense, we only got a short look at it.... :alienblush:

And Jeri, I definitely didn't see the 1701, so thanks!

But this is the famous shot that all the whiners use to "prove" the ship is only as big as the TMP Enterprise! (even though the people shown wouldn't fit on the exposed decks)

(not that the size of the ship matters:shifty:)

I saw the shot the first time in the trailer. I think it's one of the coolest Trek shots ever - I'd love to get a look at the CG model of the scene and see what details were added afterward (other than the people), as well as seeing it at different angles.

Wow...and 7 times. No, I think you might be alone in this.

Better late than never I suppose ? :p

You're welcome; I like to get some use out of my screen caps. At least you read the novelization, which many did not; and the Kirk-Ent love scene in it is quite touching. So I forgive you.

Just wait until you guys turn 40; it will become much easier to believe, trust me. I find now that theater movie screens fall into an awkward gap between where my reading glasses are effective and where my still half-decent distance vision kicks in. In that middle-range zone, details can sometimes be difficult to make out. 'Tis inconvenient, to say the least.

I say this will all the care and respect due Your Modship's position -- you may want to go visit an optometrist. Seriously -- eye conditions can worsen if they go untreated, and next time it may not be something as innocuous as the Enterprise that you miss... Good luck.

Ask for progressive vision lenses (no-line bifocals). No one will know you are wearing bifocals.:techman:

I'm not sure if I have now become an object of horror, compassion, or humor. The last, I hope!
Put me down as a vote for the second option. Compassion is always the best way to go.

I love that image of Kirk looking at the Abramsprise getting built do you like it

For the "drama" of the moment, it's OK.

Otherwise, no, I don't like it.

Building a starship there makes as much sense as building an aircraft carrier there.

Well, the Ent-D was partially built on the ground too. I think it makes a lot of sense to do a lot of work in an environment where the workers can have the most flexibility.

And aircraft carriers are built on land up to a certain point.
