Why does Kirk have make-up and a vanity in his quarters???

Captain James T. Kirk is obviously a metrosexual, or would that be a starship-sexual.

Why would he not have those? That's his home for five years at a stretch. And he needs to look good every six weeks or so, when the adventure involves diplomacy.

Does there exist an ambassador (or even a union leader) today who wouldn't have a make-up team ready to make him or her look presentable? If anything, Kirk is less vainly equipped than those folks, as he either does his own makeup, or then has a staff of one (Rand must have something to do other than providing clean uniforms and hot coffee).

The big question is, why did the transporter beam first take the Evil Kirk to his quarters for a quick makeup session and only then deliver him to the transporter room?
