The Enemy Within: new observations

A lot of what is acceptable and not on stage or in front of the camera depends on the relationship the actors have. I know actors who would be perfectly fine with someone slapping them in that manner, where as others would absolutely not be I would probably knock the other actor’s block off if he did it. As with most things, it’s where the lines of consent are.

"Thanks, I... needed that."

"ditzy Whale lover"? You mean, the respected and caring marine biologist? I don't remember Gillian being portrayed as particularly ditzy.
You're right. She wasn't ditzy. Although she was a caring and intelligent woman she also was extremely impulsive and short-tempered. Kirk dodged a bullet when she embarked on another ship.

Are you an actor/actress?

I mean, objectively it sounds dubious, but if it's an accepted thing within context, then maybe we shouldn't be judging from the outside looking in?
I'm not an actor or an actress but I know but I know some stuff actresses had to put up with in the 60s/still have to put up with today is unacceptable.
No I'm not an actress but things like the casting couch, being molested, getting french-kissed in scenes, being treated like a second-class citizen is not acceptable.
I realise that acting is a physical profession and probably Shatner and Hoffman had great intentions. But if Whitney or Streep wasn't up to it then let it go. Spend your lunchtime going through the scene with them if you must. Get them replaced. Of course if they were acting friends who had that sort of relationship where they could trip each other up or slap each other whatever then who am I to judge. I just think don't think thats the case here. I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong

In the "Enemy Within" situation, in-universe, Rand is compelled, forced, obligated to measure her reactions to the situation; perhaps obligated to lie that everything is fine. She wants to have a Starfleet career ahead of her, after all, and better not make an enemy of Admiral Weinstein's merry band of top officers.

In the "Enemy Within" situation, studio-wise, GLW would not be. If she says she's fine with it, why think it a lie? It's not as if her future as an actor could even theoretically depend on it at that point.
