The End Of Time Part 1 - Comment & Grading SPOILERS

I'd be ok with a reset button à la 'Last of the Timelords' - it didn't happen, but for the people we cared about, it did.
I think that's what would happen. Everything for the ninth and tenth Doctors happened to the Doctor, but like the Year that Never Was, no one remembers it other than the people at the heart of the vortex.

Does that include people like Sarah Jane and Jack Harkness? As I suggested earlier, if everything the Ninth and Tenth Doctors did no longer applies, then Nine and Rose could never have met Jack; Ten could never have met Sarah Jane. There are all these problems.

And yes, those are valid reasons for there not to be a reset. It would do incalculable damage to the spin-offs, Torchwood especially. Sarah Jane Adventures would, I think, be far less affected by a reboot.

However, do we know that the spin-offs are continuing? RTD walking back John Barrowman's recent talk about Torchwood may be indicative that Torchwood won't continue, possibly because it can't.

It's also worth noting that RTD is very much an instinctual writer. He storytelling decisions come from the gut, and they're right for the story he's telling at the moment, even if those decisions cause massive problems elsewhere. RTD could very easily press a reset button, not caring that it affects Torchwood and SJA, because they're not relevant to the story he's telling in "The End of Time."

I did hear that RTD was hoping for future DW crossovers with Torchwood after TEOT, and that while he's leaving DW, he's staying on at Torchwood. Personally, it wouldn't bother me all that much if Torchwood doesn't come back, as I've never liked it very much. A bit more concerned for SJA though. Why would that not be as badly effected by a reboot?

Because they would only lose K-9 and some memories (from School Reunion, The Stolen Earth/Journey's End and The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith). Overall, I don't think it would change that much. They're pretty independent from the new series.

I looked back at the episode and I love that Master Race line, I know some people have problems with it but its such a cracking line that just oozes how truly insane wicked and evil The Master is.

I can never read RTD's mind and I get it wrong every single time I try to anticipate how he unfurls the story. BUT its so much fun that I can't help myself. So here are my totally incorrect personal predictions for The End of Time finale:

1) Rose and the Human Doctor returns!
2) Doctor Donna returns!
3) Dalek Caan returns! (possibly just a flashback, or voiceover)
4) We finally know what Bad Wolf means!
5) The Doctor somehow undo the Time War, causing it to have never happened or happens differently.
6) The Doctor also somehow manage to retain the events of the past 4-5 years in tact.
7) As a result, Timelords and Daleks will be back for good.

Wibbly wobbly, shitey writey.

In confidential, RTD specifically indicates that the timelords would be corrupt and evil, even going as far as showing clips from the classic series to show how the timelords were progressing that way. Tim Dalton as the Lord President is clearly evil or insane if you have seen the preview clip on youtube.

Encore!! :techman:

I'm pretty sure that "Trial of a Timelord" fairly well established the whole "Timelords are corrupt and evil" angle.

That's been their portrayal ever since "The War Games," really, and it leads to what's been one of my biggest complaints about the series since its revival (the other being the unending Lonely God shit that needs to end): The Doctor has spent all this time moping around, missing the Time Lords, wishing they'd return, when he's forgetting that his race was a bunch of colossal douchebags.

I refuse to ascribe that level of subtlety to Russell T. Davies' writing, because it simply isn't there.

I have to admit after watching the BBC 3 confidential last night on I Player, it made me like the episode more especially when RTD was talking about how a Isolated race (time lords) with such power would breed corruption over time.

Best. Villain pun. EVER!

I don't need to see any preview clips. The fact that they cast Timothy Dalton in the role is evidence enough! (BTW, if Dalton's character is killed at the end of the special, I think he should regenerate into Pierce Brosnan!:p)

I'm glad the Time Lords are back, even if they are going to be villainous. I hope it's permanent. I have a sneaking fear that it might not be. I'm afraid we may be in for another return/genocide, as the new series has done with the Daleks 3 times now in "Bad Wolf"/"The Parting of the Ways," "Doomsday," & "The Stolen Earth"/"Journey's End."

My friend has a theory that the old woman that appeared to Wilfred on the TV is the current incarnation of Susan. I'm hoping that we do get to see Susan and/or Romana in Part 2.

The Master is really getting on my nerves here. It's like John Simm is trying to out-ham David Tennant, an excruciating proposition that should never even be attempted. And the "end of time" is starting to remind me a bit too much of the "Reality Bomb" from "The Stolen Earth"/"Journey's End." Enough with the over-the-top stakes already!

All I can say is, to me, the Time Lords are like the legend of Atlantis -- only interesting 'cause they're dead and gone. The Doctor is the last of the Atlanteans.
