The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

A legendary daedric bow is the only way to go, really, even in close quarters. I can one shot most anything short of giants, dragons and high-level vampires/chiefs - and sometimes even them if I pull off a sneak attack with a crit to the head. I enchanted it to paralyze, too, so if that first shot doesn't drop them, they can't react before I get off a second. Dawnstar and Nightingale Blade work great as dual weapons if I'm feeling like jumping in hand-to-hand, too.

Skyrim

Got the game a few weeks back and am amazed by the depth of it. Anyone else playing?

I am a fan of Role-Playing games, and this has taken up most of my gaming time lately. I think it is one of the finest entries of recent years into the genre.

Namikaze

I use a combination of one-handed, block, and archery, myself. Works pretty well for the most part, especially when combined with light armour.

At some point I'd like to try double handed magic... like a heal spell in one and destruction spell in the other. Has anyone tried that out? I don't think I'd feel safe wearing mage robes instead of armor!
You can actually take the robe enchantments and apply them to armour!

[Slaps forehead] Of course!

Anyway, this has probably been asked but: Stormcloak or Imperial?

I was leaning Imperial because the Stormcloaks are a bit racist, but then yesterday the Imperials executed this guy in front of his nephew just for opening a door, so now I'm leaning Stormcloak.

^ I went with the Imperials. Ulfric is an asshole, and assassinated the legitimate ruler of Skyrim for no good reason. Then when I learned they were going to attack Whiterun, my favourite city, I decided I had no choice but to join the Legion.

And yeah, the Empire isn't perfect, but I think they have a much better shot at holding off the Aldmeri than the Stormcloaks do.

I sided with the Legion for the same reasons. Ulfric is indeed an ass and the Nords tend to be rather racist. Considering my first playthrough was as a dark elf why would I side with the prick Jarl of Windhelm when he's oppressing my people?

I just picked Stormcloaks because they're the rebellion against the empire... honestly I'm not following the story that closely I find it a little tedious. I'm just skipping the dialogue lines and reading the subtitles really fast or else this would take the rest of my life to play :p

I always listen to people. Dunno why. I guess it's just the sort of game I like to discover slowly.

And it's not as if this is the most dialogue heavy game... Mr Light, I don't know your age but did you ever play Planescape Torment? If Skyrim could take the rest of your life then your great grandkids would be finishing PS-T for you. ;)

I would hate playing the game like that. I need investment in the story to make me give a fuck.

This. If I don't care about the plot or can't at least spin the story implications into something interesting using my imagination, it's like I'm playing a multiplayer FPS map with bots or an endless tutorial level. I killed another thing and picked up a thing, at last achieving a thing! Yaaawwwn!

I just completed the Stormcloak Rebellion! Time to get back to the main quest.

Story is definitely important to me... but I'm trying to play this for 50 hours instead of 100 hours ;) I'm trying to finish as much as possible for Mass Effect 3 comes out, lol.

I did the stormcloak questline first, and in successive playthroughs I stayed away from the civil war stuff. I think in my current playthrough I'll do the imperial side of things, for completion's sake and also because I made a mod to make General Tullius look more like Michael Hogan :D

also, PC guys, what are your favorite mods?
you can get thousands of different mods on nexusmods.com and through the steam workshop

right now I've got a bunch of mods that I'm using, my favorites right now are The Witcher 2 armors, Jaysus swords, weapons of the third era, and my personal favorite is one that adds trees to Whiterun . . . it just makes the whole town look so much better
and there's also one that makes one handed swords sheathe on the back like two handers, and a bunch more that I can't remember off the top of my head . . .

what mods do you guys like?

Had a pretty epic dragon battle today. I injured it enough to the point where it couldn't fly anymore. Kept shooting arrows at it and I thought it was a sure thing, I was gonna kill it. Then it crawls towards me and takes me by surprise, takes me into its mouth, then flings me flying away. That was the most incredible thing I'd seen. Has this happened to anyone else?

While exiting a settlement yesterday I was attacked by TWO Frost Dragons at the same time! It took me awhile to realize there were two, when I kept damaging one, then fighting one with more health, lol. I killed the first one alright, but then all the city guards were dead, and the second one was more difficult. And that was when I got jaw-tossed by a dragon for the first time

what I hate is wandering around and learning some words for a shout, and seeing a dragon flying around, but it doesn't attack and just flies away after a while . . .
c'mon back, dragon! let me kill ya!

I have a dumb question, every time you kill a dragon it says you absorbed its soul... but what does that mean? Am I leveling up? Storing them in a soul gem?
