I admit I haven't read through all the posts (sorry if I'm repeating something)
What if the "maw" were articulated, like complicated jet engine feathers...and, perhaps some of the layered greebles could evoke the look of a jet engine, in an ancient alien sort of way.(layers of pipes and tubes and pump/carb looking "stuff").
Or asymmetrical pieces of old armor still left clinging to the structure.

Judexavier, I'm definitely going to go that direction with the "mouth"... It's going to have all kinds of pipes and some kind of weird looking stuff in the middle...

My only issue with it is the sharp points missing at the ends, near the maw. I think it would look more menacing that way, with the point. Just something odd about them being sheared off like that.

Also I'm guessing that that federation starship is about the same size as the nuEnterprise. Which means compared to the tos enterprise, this would be flipping huge!!

Yep, that ship there is exactly the same size as my STXI Enterprise model, so yeah, it's huge.

Yep, that ship there is exactly the same size as my STXI Enterprise model, so yeah, it's huge.

So that doomsday weapon is about 20300 metres long.

When it comes to textures, are you thinking on having it look hullplating-y, or are you thinking of something else more alien.

More alien..... Actually, I thought I would texture it kind of like a Jaffa Staff weapon, from Stargate... on a larger scale, of course.

That may not look good at all, but that's what I was thinking.
