The Doomsday Machine...

Hey, thought it was about time for something new to come out of me. :)

I made this a couple of weeks ago, and even made a cell-phone snapshot type image of it, to see if I could convince anybody it was real... it didn't make it very far into the wild, so I thought I would show you guys. :)

And here's the "viral" version that didn't go anywhere... I thought it was pretty convincing, though. :)

What do ya'll think?

Oh crap!! Could you have stumbled onto the plot of the new movie? It would be a perfect fit for this altverse/young crew.
And great composition BTW!

Heh, that'd be something, wouldn't it? I'd freak out if that's what they are doing, but somehow, I doubt they'll blow any planets up this time. :)

I would love for the next movie to focus on the Doomsday machine, however like MadMan says, I doubt theyre gonna make blowing up planets a trend.

Still though, gorgeous poster you've made there Mad...Man :P

For the longest time, the Doomsday Machine was at the top of my list for the next sequel, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized they already used most of those gimmicks in the first movie, most notably the giant space vessel with a starship-swallowing maw and a penchant for destroying entire planets. I can't see how they could portray something like the Planet Killer without the audience leaning back and saying to themselves, "Didn't we just do this?"

Shoot, they even destroyed the Narada in much the same way, by flying another ship down its throat.

I love the idea, I just don't see how the execution would work on the heels of the last one.

The logo is unconvincing and placed too high up, and the 'shop is clearly a 'shop.

The picture under it all is pretty great though.

Thanks, guys. :)

Yep, I'm thinking the same thing... and the more you think about it, it would be too much of a retread.

How do you mean? I just tried to fake the look from the last round of movie posters, but I gave the larger part more of a rough metal look like the Machine itself has... and I made Star Trek small, since that's the way sequels tend to go nowadays, with the name of the movie first, then the series it's part of.

Almost forgot... what makes the fake cell phone pic obvious? There were some weird things going on near that guy's head that look weird, but they were already in the original picture... I tried to match it to a pic I took on my Blackberry, and I thought I got the noise level in the dark pretty close...

I'm going to go ahead and make a wallpaper shaped variation of this. :)

Honestly, I don't think you made "The Doomsday Machine" big enough. Maybe make the spaces between the words smaller and increase the font size a bit. And hell, maybe even make "Star Trek" a bit smaller.

And lower the words a bit. They're too high up on the poster and create an awkward imbalance.

Otherwise, this picture is fucking awesome. Well done.

Hmm... I thought I had the balance thing worked out with the big text up top, and the credits at the bottom, but something just occurred to me.... I think I designed a book cover, not a poster. :)

Now let's see your Blender based "spin" upon the infamous planet killer itself.

Sincerely,

Bill

I think you might be right.

Excellent work. Think we might see more from 'The Doomsday Machine'?
