The Doctor's Activation day!

Lynx

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Today we are celebrating Lewis Shmullus Schweitzer Van Gpgh Zimmerman, more known as The Doctor.

He was activated on Stardate 48308.2 which is 23 April 2371 so the day can be regarded as a sort of birthday for The Doctor.

Happy Birthday Doc!

1) He was surely first activated long before Voyager ever set off.
2) He was deactivated almost as quickly (happy death day?).
3) He's a computer app. You don't celebrate the day you first opened Word or turned your computer on, do you?

4) Happy birthday.

Hey, Lynx!

The Doctor was one of my Favorite "characters" on Voyager!

Happy Birthday, Doc!

1) He was surely first activated long before Voyager ever set off.
That's tricky. Throughout the series it is frequently mentioned he was first activated when he was called upon to treat the wounded in Caretaker, but then Relativity did show him active while the ship was still at Utopia Planitia.

I think an early episode (Projections?) revealed that his first 'memory' or whatever you might call it in a hologram was being activated on Voyager.

So maybe there was some magic voodoo dust in the Delta quadrant that made him into a real boy.

Alpha quadrant = computer tool.

Delta quadrant = sapient life form.

1) Probably. But, as The Wormhole pointed out, it's frequently mentioned that the first time he was activated was that day when Voyager was transported to the Delta Quadrant, three days before Janeway made the entry with a stardate in her log. (As for Relativity, wasn't that the episode where the writers tried to re-write all events in seasons 1-3 to make it look like Seven was on board the ship the whole time? I don't think that episode is relevant for anything in Voyager).

2) Oh no, he was just sleeping. Even Shmullus needs his 8 hours of rest.

3) Well, for some years I did celebrate the day when I bought my first computer back in 1995. On the tenth anniversary I realized that all that was left of the old computer after all rebuilding and upgrades was the keyboard so I celebrated that day by buying a new keyboard. ;)

As for computer apps, they also have rights. Here are some words from The Great Kes:
"JANEWAY: Kes, he's only a hologram.
KES: He's your Medical Officer. He's alive.
JANEWAY: No he's not.
KES: He's self aware, he's communicative, he has the ability to learn.
JANEWAY: Because he's been programmed to do that.
KES: So because he's a hologram he doesn't have to be treated with respect or any consideration at all?"

4) I agree on that. Happy Birthday!

Maybe. Or someone might call it development! :techman:

You mean you *don't* celebrate Clippy's first release in Microsoft Office every November 19? Surely you must be dead inside.

PATTERSON: Computer, transfer command codes to Captain Kathryn Janeway, authorization Patterson-pi-omega-397. Oh, and have the protocol droid, er, EMH's mind wiped.
