When they announced they were doing a Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers movie, this is definitely not what I expected.

Mocking Robert Zemeckis' creepy CGI movies is a hell of a deep-cut joke. But I liked it.

Not really. Not for the parents they are aiming the nostalgia cannon at, while getting the kids in for a cartoon. Most of them, who watched the Rescue Rangers as children, recall the Uncanny Valley of the early 2000's vividly.

It does feel a little... disrespectful though. They're aping Zemeckis' Roger Rabbit while insulting his CGI films. Reminds me of Mendes insulting Campbell's Bonds when the only reason he got to make Bond films was because Campbell saved the franchise twice.

Yeah, that's everything I hate about the recent trend of old animated classics getting big cinematic features but in our world. Hard. PASS.

Have Tomorrow is Yesterday, but its a cross over with Top Gun, as the movie.

If it was possible, I'd cross over with the original Top Gun, and have Goose adventure on Enterprise.

To be clear, I'm all for the Smurfs and Sonic and Chip 'n Dale getting their own cinematic features.

But set them in their worlds please. Fuck.

But then you can't exploit the synergistic potential of meta IP crossovers! Look how much money Free Guy and Spider man made last year!

You can with Chip 'n Dale. They're a small part of a very large universe. As DuckTales demonstrated.

But, yeah, I get your point. Ugh.

Movie is out and I've watched about 1/3. Not really feeling the voices chosen for Chip(John Mulaney) and Dale(Andy Samberg) and the storyline isn't really connecting with me. I'm having a hard time figuring out the intended audience, it's just weird.

Also finding out that
Gadget and Zipper have gotten together and have fly/mouse hybrid children...

Umm.... yah.

Wait...what?!?!

I had zero interest in this film anyways because of the way they've decided to present the story and characters but that spoiler is just plain insanity.

I watched this morning and struggled to stay awake through the whole thing. There is barely enough story to justify a movie around 90 minutes long. It’s whole purpose is endless Easter Eggs to old cartoons. Some actually are good.

They easily could have switched out Chip and Dale for other characters and it would have made little difference. The use of the shows premise and supporting characters are so minimal it would have been easy to adjust.

The idea is that Chip and Dale are actors who did goofy voices for the show. It is basically a buddy film of 2 cartoon chipmunks with human voices. Which is very off putting for a whole movie.

There are some good ideas here which do not suit Rescue Rangers. Both the premise and characters diminish the other.
