News The Disney+ (The New Streaming Service) Thread

Since nothing seems to be coming of the New Warriors pilot, I’m hoping Disney sees fit to put it and the Most Wanted pilot on the service.
Yeah, that would be nice. I've been wanting to see the Most Wanted pilot for ages now.

Disney Plus had a tweet recently confirming what I've wanted to know since the news about the service started. Talespin, Darkwing Duck, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, and DuckTales will be on the service. Not sure when, but I would be very surprised if they are not on at launch or a little after the launch date. This also means they are looking at their animated TV line up in the 90s and shows like Gargoyles won't be too far behind.

I just thought of something else I'd like to see on their, all, or at least some, of the old Marvel animated series.

Didn't Fox own the old X-Men and Spider-Man series? Considering that's owned by Disney now They should go on there. I totally forgot about those shows until you brought it up. I know in terms of the Animated X-Men series, that was one of the reasons I hated what they did to Cyclops in X3.

Disney Afternoon series confirmed on twitter:
(original) DuckTales
Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers
TaleSpin
Darkwing Duck

That was what I was thinking too. I saw them when I was looking through the old Fox Kids line ups for stuff that could end up on Disney+, they were the only things on there I was pretty sure would be owned entirely by Disney now.

By that token, the 90s Silver Surfer cartoon also aired on FOX Kids, but wikipedia says it was a canadian co-production, so I wonder who really has the rights to it.

Marvel's youtube/website in the past has also had episodes of the older 80s Marvel cartoons (specifically Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, the 80s Spider-Man cartoon, etc), so maybe they also own the rights to those (SM & HAF was on US Netflix for awhile). The Spider-Woman cartoon, while it aired on ABC apparently, is listed as having been 100% produced by Marvel comics/Marvel owned subsidiary, so that could be a possibility. There is also the 90s Avengers cartoon, although its pretty bad, the 90s Iron Man and FF cartoons (the second sne of FF actually being pretty decent), and the 90s Hulk cartoon which I mostly want to see because its second season apparently has a lot of She-Hulk.

Really, though, X-Men and Spider-Man TAS alone would be awesome to see on Disney+, especially since, unlike X-Men, Spider-Man TAS never got a full series DVD release, just a few DVDs with a story arc or two. The Disney Afternoon stuff is also interesting, even for someone like me who didn't get to see too much of it as a kid.

Looks like it could be fun
Looks like the kind of show I usually avoid. But Jeff Goldblum! I might have to watch it just because he makes everything 90% cooler.

Their Instagram confirmed that Gargoyles and Goof Troop will be available at launch.
Cool, I can finally see more of Gargoyles. I watched the first one or two episodes ages ago when they posted the whole series on one of the Disney Youtube channels for free, but they pulled it before I could get any further, and it's never been streaming anywhere else. I've almost bought it a couple times since then, but now I'm glad I didn't.
Now I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed for the Aladdin series.

Apparently, the Netherlands versionof Disney+ (which has been released early as a trial run) has most of the old Marvel cartoons I was talking about before

Unfortunately, some of those cartoons are definitely ones that have only had home media releases outside the US (Spider-Woman, Silver Surfer, etc), so this doesn't confirm everything for the US Disney+.

That said, after buying FOX Disney owns the rights to the 90s X-Men and presumably Spider-Man TAS and Spider-Man unlimited, so I'd expect those to be on the US version, and (based off them getting US DVD releases) probably the 90s FF and Iron Man cartoons at bare minimum. Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends is also a strong possibility, since it has been shown on TV at times and was on netflix for awhile.

Disney+ for me is going to be worth it for me just for the old cartoon content at this point, with everything else just being a great bonus. I can't wait to be able to go through the old Disney Afternoon stuff I never really got to watch, and having X-Men and/or Spider-Man TAs avaliable to stream would be a dream come true.

Just signed up for the trial version. Finally got to see the first episode of Runaways (never had any legal access to it before). Everything works very well, very professional looking, good loading times, smooth playback, no video or audio problems at all. Unfortunately the Dutch subtitles automatically load at the top of the screen instead of the bottom, so we had to use the English ones instead (hopefully they fix that). But you can actually choose what you want your subtitles to look like, which is a neat feature and great for people with poor sight. The catalog available right now is still limited, but it's honestly already a lot more impressive than Amazon Prime, and not just in the ways I was expecting anyway (Marvel/Star Wars/Pixar), but also in other good films that I had no idea would be there.
