News The Disney+ (The New Streaming Service) Thread

Have we heard anything about excisting content yet? Will all MCU be up straight away? All Star Wars movies and series? All Pixar and Disney animated movies? Stuff like that, you know.

Some of the stuff is limited by preexisting streaming deals that Disney already made with other companies.
Really like the posters for WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. I really like Sam and Bucky's new costumes.
So is all of the '50s sitcom stuff in WandaVision going be some kind of dream, or reality manipulation? That's really the only way I can think something like that would make sense.

By the end of the first year, there should be 12 Marvel movies at least. Of the 23 movies so far, I have to imagine that only 20 of them will ever find their way to Disney+. The Incredible Hulk and the Spider-Man movies will probably wind up elsewhere.

I know why they won't release a complete list of everything on their back catalog they are putting on Disney+, but I really want confirmation of the Disney Afternoon shows (all the kids who watched those are parents now so it's a no brainer). I also really want to see all the Herbie movies on there. I own all the DVDs but streaming has spoiled me and my My Blu-ray player seems super slow now in comparison.

I wouldn't mind revisiting shows like Darkwing Duck and Tail Spin. That's really off people's radar in terms of this service, so I agree with you about wanting confirmation. It shouldn't be too hard to put these series on there at launch since I don't think they are streaming anywhere else.

Gargoyles!

Just having the Disney Afternoon shows alone would pretty much be enough to get me to subscribe. I used to love Tail Spin, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, and the Aladdin series when I was a kid, and I would love to watch them again as an adult.

I didn't really know about the Disney afternoon as a kid (especially since it started the year I was born and by the time I was old enough to be watching those kind of cartoons the block was far from its glory days from what I can tell), but speaking of old, obscure Disney cartoons, I really want to see the Hercules cartoon on the service. Hercules is one of my favorite Disney movies, and I remember really enjoying the show as a kid (the movie and the show are probably why I enjoy greek mythology so much).

I really liked it when there was Norse crossover on that show. Fun mythology stuff there.

This thread took me on a little Wikipedia search today about Tail Spin, and that series has an interesting story. Two episodes from that series was either temporarily banned (One was because of an Asian plot and another was because of a terrorist plot) and Disney was sued because Jim Cumming's voice as Louie was so spot on that the widow of the actor who portrayed him in The Jungle Book sued Disney for a royalty breach of contract. I wonder if that might impact Talespin coming on the service. Like I said, these series are not really on the radar right now but with all the talk about Star Wars and original content, I really want to know what "Little-known" content will be on the service.

Here's the link to the wiki I read talking about it:

I honestly can't remember if I watched the Hercules series.
I think I did watch The Little Mermaid one, but I remember absolutely nothing about it.

The Louis Voice issue was settled out of court and didn't affect the DVD releases, so I hope that it's now a non-issue. Interestingly, both the "banned" episodes are on the DVD releases.
Since the whole draw of Disney is their back catalog, I hope to see most of their 1940s-1960s TV stuff on the platform eventually. I bet it's a matter of digitization and light editing (to remove anything seen as "problematic"). Though I'd much rather see everything unedited, I can understand the need to avoid controversy. Besides, they need to hold something back to they can advertise when they add stuff.
