The Die Was Cast

Which isn't the claim being made - the claim being made is he introduced those things - he didn't. Both Rank and miltary terms are front and present from the outset.

the Botswain's Whistle
Triva question for the room - which TOS episode do we see a crewman use a Botswain's Whistle?

He also treated the Nebula battle like a submarine cat-and-mouse game

Balance of terror.

Wait...is BlackcoatCowboy the same as OneBuckFilms...? 'Cause the posting style and POV are identical.

Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan was the most successful based not only on sales but also marketing and promotion. (NOTE: It did not have any toys produces off it at the time.)

It may not have had action figures "at the time", but it did have a best-selling novelization, a "making of" book, a Photostory, View-Master reels, Starlog Movie Magazine, at least five picture mugs, replica belt buckles, Khan's pendant and uniform insignias, photo playing cards, collector cards, ceramic figural toby jugs and even Corgi UK toy vessels (which had "Vengeance of Khan" on them). ST II was closely followed by a DC Comics sequel series which continued the tale through ST III and beyond.

Even LeVar Burton has doubts about this direction...

Which direction?

Star Trek movies domestic box office grosses:

The Motion Picture - $82,258,456

The Wrath of Khan - $78,912,963

The Search for Spock - $76,471,046

The Voyage Home - $109,713,132

The Final Frontier - $52,210,049

The Undiscovered Country - $74,888,996

Generations - $75,671,125

First Contact - $92,027,888

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was written by Harve Bennett, Jack B. Sowards, Samuel A. Peeples and Nicholas Meyer. It was produced by Harve Bennett, William F. Phillips and Robert Sallin. It was directed by Nicholas Meyer.

These are very misleading numbers if you dont take in to effect the price of tickets...if you do, then the failure of NEMESIS is even more incredible...heck FF beats it even with 1989 dollars...yikes..

Rob

Nicholas Meyer was responsible for bringing the military terms and ranks to Trek, changed the uniforms, changed the bridge and controls, brought in CGI, added nautical terms,

up gene was a wwIIvet . the ranks and a lot of the terms were already there.

did you watch tos.

really myer maybe was paying attention to gene's hornoblower concept
;)

and we still dont know the direction of the new film.

just a bunch of rumors.

Gene Roddenberry created Star Trek.

It became a wildfire after cancellation.

Gene Roddenberry brought Star Trek back again.

Gene Roddenberry, and Harve Bennett, brought it back again.

However, Nicholas Meyer gave it its look, feel, sound, and epic. He didnt break the mold but rather brought out its edges, features, and sculpt. He didnt film it as a Trek movie but rather an adventure of Horatio Hornblower.

That epic look, feel, and sound continued forward into the other films and spinoff televised series.

JJ Abrams is supposed to be breaking the die and remolding it from scratch.

Out of all Trek movies, Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan was the most successful based not only on sales but also marketing and promotion. (NOTE: It did not have any toys produces off it at the time.)

Even LeVar Burton has doubts about this direction...

Why is LeVar Burton considered an expert?

In spite of that alleged epic look feel and sound the franchise still died so it wasn't the cure-all/catch-all that would make ST always work.

I liked other Treks better than TWOK.
