The Development of Tasha Yar

It's a shame writers in 1987 had no idea how to write a character like Tasha. Sam Carter in Stargate is basically a science-smart version of what Tasha was supposed to be.

Tasha Yar (aka Macha Hernandez) was inspired by Jenette Goldstein's Vasquez in "Aliens". Goldstein was even asked to audition, IIRC, and her appearance on the Enterprise-B in "Generations" was supposedly a callback to that missed opportunity.
