The Destruction of Romulus!?

I'm just so tired of reboots and "reimaginings." There's a whole universe of stories that you can tell while still being Star Trek at heart.

This!

I think that reboots/reimaginings are a clear sign of creative bankruptcy.
While I agree with the sentiment, you appear to answer your own question. i.e., you're asking for creativity where it is posited that there is none to start.

Yes. Without a doubt, Ocean's Eleven (2001), King Kong (2005), Batman Begins (2005), Casino Royale (2006), and True Grit (2010) were creatively bankrupt.

Calling writers "unimaginative," "bankrupt" and "lazy" are just code words for "I hate it when they change the macaroni and cheese recipe."

Someone in the General Discussion forum suggested setting the new series in the aftermath of the destruction of Romulus, as the Romulan's empire implodes. That could be pretty interesting. I just hope some Remans survived; I love those guys.

I feel the complete opposite of every single word you said. :p

Nemesis Writing Meeting - August 24, 2001

Writer 1: So...we need a bad guy. The last movie didn't do too well when we introduced a new bad guy. What about this one?

Writer 2: "Romulans!"

Writer 1: LOVE IT! YES. TELL ME MORE.

Writer 2: But instead of Romulans, it'll be a clone of Captain Picard."

Writer 1: Ok...not really what I was thin..."

Writer 2: "And what about some obvious monster looking like things."

Writer 1: Have we ever heard about them before?"

Writer 2: "NO! That's the beauty of it. Also they're like from the same planet or something as the Romulans."

Writer 1: So a non-Romulan Romulan bad guy and some non-Romulan Vampires."

Writer 2: "And a dune buggy."

Is this the mindless hatred of NEM thread now?
While not exactly Oscar material, I feel Nemesis has aged the best of the four TNG films.
Compared against FC?

Note: not an argument but a genuine curiosity.

I've seen a few people say they enjoy FC less these days. I feel the same. Probably this is partly just because of overexposure, but I'd also say Frakes does not have a great cinematic sensibility - IMO the Borg stuff lacks scale and creep factor considering the opportunities presented. And thinking on FC now, I'm trying to remember how Picard's hating-the-Borg arc ended. Did it just kind of evaporate?

NEM on the other hand has some virtues which might seem relatively fresh simply because people hardly ever watch it. ;)
It's dramatic-looking, and the Picard/Shinzon conflict is pretty intense. It also manages to make the Romulans look pretty cool, despite their stuck-up demeanour and those silly tops.

It probably persisted beyond FC. However, snapping the neck of the Borg queen was likely a cathartic moment for him. Perhaps Lily got through to him that yes he needed to have revenge, the Borg queen was helpless, and studying her might have helped in future dealing with the Borg.

Or Picard could just snap her neck.
