The Delta Emblem?

wasn't there one that looked like a big mayan sun or something?
I always thought it looked like a daisy.
Also, all of the uni patches from the other ships/starbases looked really gay.
It kinda goes back to that daisy thing... :guffaw:
Yeay yeah... gay and pansies. Boy you guys would been a hit in the 3rd grade...in 1957.

Coming from the guy with that avatar. ;)

And, yes, it was a very third grade, juvenile, comment (which was 1983 for me) :p

I am gay and I thought it was funny. I guess I still have my sense of humor... and yeah what he said about the avatar (lots of humor in it).

The difference being that my avatar is a loop of actual TAS animation, and there's nothing sexual about it...except what you bring to it! ;)

You know where this is going. I'm guessing that in the new movie, from what I've seen, the Enterprise "unit patch" is being used as the Starfleet symbol in this movie. This has always irritated me. What did the Enterprise do that was so special that Starfleet adopted it for the entire service?
The way I'm retconing it, is that the delta symbol was the general symbol for Starfleet, not something unique to the Enterprise. Other ships that had different symbols were part of different specialized task forces. There is no on screen evidence to indicate any of this but it works in my mind *shrug*

Yeah, my personal theory has always been something along those lines too.

Makes more sense if the delta/arrow was *always* the Starfleet symbol, and various ships/starbases/stations/etc had there own individual emblems - but some - like the Enterprise, being the "flagship" - the crew wore the Starfleet symbol. (Captain's discretion, maybe?)

YES!!!! Finally I can live with this! Thank you! I forgot that the Enterprise is the flag ship and as such it represents the Federation so naturally it's personel would display it's emblem. Ok it's kind of thin, but atleast I can live with it. Now I have something that will tell the little guy in my head that knitpicks everything to STFU! Thanks!

What didn't the Enterprise do...

Really basically it was an Out of Story decision by Roddenberry seeing as that emblem was the one you saw most since everything you saw revolved around the enterprise, to get fan recongizability he just began using the emblem for all of star fleet.

The instory reason he gave was that the 'Prise was the most decorated and famous ship in all of starfleet.

Kirk was his era's Captain Robau.
