The Deep Beeb 1 tonight

Finally caught episode 3 last night. Hopefully this is just the saggy middle episode because it was, as has been said, a bit all over the place.

The 'twist' with Vincent was so obvious it was painful, as for Clem's actions, yeah they were stupid but frankly that's less his fault than Francis' for sending the man who's wife died over to the bloody Hermes!

The whole nuclear reactor business just seemed like the writer was forced to add an episode so he needed something dramatic! And I'm hoping there will be a decent reason why they don't just head for the surface now they have a fully functional sub!

I'm still intrigued enough to keep watching as clearly something else is going on here re the Hermes crew etc but hopefully it'll pick up again for the last couple of episodes.

Not bothered seeing this episode yet. Might just wait to hear what the rest of the series is like before bothering.

What an improvement!

It's hard to believe the same writers wrote last week's effort and this week's. Finally Clem was given a believable role. The story is at last making sense, the characters are at last behaving credibly. Suddenly it's become quite gripping.

Yeah it was better, and I'm glad the two Russians aren't being played as bad guys...the captain is nuts though. Francis and co abandoning Svetlana, Vincent and Raymond made sense, but was still a bit of a shock! I'm still wondering if Raymond is as bad a guy as he's being made out to be. So is
Clem definitely dead? God Scarlet's going to need therepy. Your mum dies then your dad goes off after her, turns out your mum's alive but now your dad is dead!

Anyone else suspect that when the Volos positions itself over Orpheus that
the remains of Lurch/Clem will bash into them saving Orpheus?

I still don't think it's brilliant, and given the cast budget it could and should have been better, but I give it kudos for not always being predictable (Vincent last week aside)

I'm not sure about your question. I think that's what you're supposed to conclude from the way the crew on the Orpheus were reacting. However nothing seems to be set in stone from the very beginning. I thought the same as your second idea, whether the first question is yes or no, although it would obviously be more satisfying if the people left behind could be rescued somehow. I also like that the Russians are good guys.

It would seem logical from what we saw withe the glass starting to crack, but like you say nothing seems set in stone.

I still haven't watched last weeks yet, so skipping the posts about them. I want to like this show, and it seemed ok first couple of weeks, I'm just not compelled to keep watching, much like Luther.

Last week's is definitely padding. The writers should have had the courage to say to the commissioning editor that it was a 4-parter. In retrospect I wouldn't bother watching it. We could give you the gist in one sentence. This week's is like a different story.

Yeah it's definitely too long/padded, but it's still keeping my interest (and not just for Svetlana's bottom either!)

I did like the grandma's lack of understanding about how easy it isn't to destroy a hard drive!

I'm about half way in to last weeks episode and they've just revealed the guy on the is a Russian mole, I'm possibly more shocked than I've ever been in my life... Except it was so predictable.

This week's episode was far less flabby than last weeks. I've enjoyed it so far but I'm disappointed that Frances has been a bit ineffectual after a good start in episode one. It's easy to forget she's a scientist and not a Starfleet commander though. I still think the Email mentioned had nothing to do with Frances but related to the lavabug as the final twist. Goran's a wrong un, mark my words.

Be prepared for something even more predictable!

You mean Clem's wife being alive? That was a huge surprise. ;)

Actually that did slightly surprise me

No I meant what happened to Vincent in the end...

I think everyone was supposed to believe that Clem had finally gone over the edge. The misdirection was a good idea but completely overcooked.

I'm sufficiently hooked to see how they get past the Rank Badyins above them.

Well remember Svetlana is still on the Russkie sub, and the other non Russian mole on the arctic base might still be able to sort the bloke with the beard out.

Plus I don't think Raymond will turn out all bad (I think his name is Raymond!)

We'll find out tonight. I reckon there'll be another ensign redshirt before they all get back to the surface.

Nah

they killed Nesbitt's character before the final episode.

I have no doubt at all that he'll survive the cracking glass and find some way to get onto the sub above them, and personally save the day himself. They won't leave that sort of action to the no-name actress russian girl.
