The Death of the Superhero Comic

Exactly! So ANYONE who thinks comics are going to die is a freakin idiot and I will call you that to your stupid face. :P

Plus most comic shops have a $1 bin with slightly older comics - or you can hunt online or wait for the trades. Heck my LCBS has a QUARTER BIN! I couldn't believe it when I saw it, a QUARTER BIN! Full of some pretty decent old comics, condition wasn't the greatest for all of them, but they were decent. Not much 'new' stuff, but good old classic mid-late 80s, early 90s and some current decade stuff.

Now what kind of entertainment can you get for less than a buck nowadays? I mean really! Even a digital download at .99 cents is still only a penny cheaper than a $1 bin comic and heck if your store is lucky enough to have a quarter or fifty cent bin, you can get 2-4 comics for that same buck.

Comics won't die. While jackasses like JoeQ and Dildo will end up unemployed like the losers they are. And they think that people are buying these controversial comics because there's blogosphere chatter. No... I read them on the stands and put them back! So I stay current, but I don't buy. Gotcha suckers! Take this in your pipe and toke it.

At the speciality shops I've been to, you flip more than two pages and they're telling you to back away from the comic book slowly.

Facists! Mine don't care as long as you've got a stack of other comics in your paw they could give a rat's ass. Or I try to find a Waldenbooks, usually they have a spinner rack of comics. I wish Barnes and Noble carried more comics.

for me, I got out of comics because they got too difficult to follow, I remember when the crossover meant Spider-Man dropping in on the Fantastic 4, Wolverine fighting the hulk, or the Predator making an appearance, not having to buy a copy of the avengers to keep up with teen titans or some shit, it's blatant whoreing for money from the hardcore fans, while alienating any newcomers, it's a BAD BUISNESS IDEA, plain and simple, it's also why I like Manga, instead of $3.95 for 30 pages it's $8 for 300 or so pages, plus no crossovers and manga is on the shelves on time (i HATE HATE HATE what comic book stores have become) and the book stores will put each issue out (unlike comics, which seem to be random in book stores)

No time to read thru the thread right now, but what's killing superhero comics for me right now is what Marvel keeps doing with these cross-title events and big shakeups. I've been getting Avengers since ish 53, but i pretty much hate where the books are now. And this Dark Avengers shit is killing me. The Spidey reboot is nearly offensive. And X-Men got so complex it lost me completely a few years ago.

Maybe I am getting too old for this.

Or in their never ending quest for more money they lost sight of what made the comics cool. I agree, X-Men is fuckin fubared of late, its hard to follow. I used to like X-Treme X-Men since it was more or less self contained. Astonishing X-Men was pretty good too for a while, more or less. I even kind of applauded the way Scott and Emma's relationship was handled, its not just him shacking up and playing house with a hot blonde telepath, they actually made them care about each other. I think I'm almost enjoying their relationship more than I did Scott/Jean.

But MASSIVE storylines are just killing the books themselves. The whole Shiar storyline has got me confused and it just don't make no sense... lol.

I think they really need to say Scarlet Witch fixed things and everything is back to 'normal'. Shield is back. Iron Man is the nice guy 'Solutions' Tony again. Cap is Steve (although I do like Bucky - so maybe he could stay dead, who's to say he wouldn't have been sniped anyway?) So everything that was beyond Witchy's control went back to normal, Skrull invasion could have happened, sorta, but the REAL Avengers took care of it, not Osborne.

Ah well... I'll just go diving in the Quarter bin at my local comic shop and read some comics from a time when they actually made some semblance of sense
