Well, Liam Neeson was great in Batman Begins, so hooray, why not. Certainly would rather Ra's than Bane.

We know Bruce Wayne trained under Ducard for a fairly long period. The flashback could be from an interlude during the first film we didn't see.
Alternately, of course, if Marion Cotillard is meant to be Talia in disguise, it could be a father/daughter scene.
