The Dark Knight Rises Anticipation Station

She does look like Ellen Page doesn't she?

My first thought was Robin, then Harley Quinn as well, just because that's what struck me. Not Batgirl though.

We have Bane and Catwoman, is Nolan treading thin ice with Joseph now cast as a yet to be named character(villain?). Especially if he's a villain of the flashy sorts.

Yes we've had Scarecrow in a support role, Zsasz in a brief cameo and Falcone as well but would Joseph leave his whole summer open for just a support or cameo role? Those other three "third" baddies in the movie were roles that could be filmed in a week or so.

I know there is a whole "In Nolan We Trust" club out there on the 'net but is it possible he is treading into the "too many" baddies arena? Remember most still think Talia is yet to be cast also. If that speculation comes true(like Joseph's casting just now has) then that means at least 4 villains in Rises.

Well, both the prior films included significant characters who didn't previously exist in the comics -- Rachel Dawes, William Earle, Lau the mob accountant, Mayor Garcia, the corrupt cops in TDK, the Wayne Enterprises accountant who figured out Batman's identity, the scary inmate played by Tiny Lister, etc. So it's entirely possible that these actors could be playing new characters.

Nolan's proved that he can handle ensemble films before. "Inception" had multiple major and secondary characters and I thought had an excellent balance of use of them. I think part of fans worry concerning multiple characters/villains comes from the misuse of the villains from Schumacher's films.

I'm not worried at all. The last time I worried about a Nolan decision, the actor won an Oscar. What do I know?

Impossible now that they are dead, but a 1940's Batman directed by Orson Welles, starring Cary Grant as Batman and Conrad Veidt as the Joker.

Back in 2003, Mark Millar started an internet hoax that Welles had been working a Batman movie in the 1940s but pulled out when the studio insisted on casting Gregory Peck as Bruce Wayne instead of letting Welles play the part himself. The hoax inspired a couple of YouTube videos that gives you a pretty good idea of what a Welles Batman might have looked like.
:techman: Cool! That really does stir the imagination.

If anything it makes me want even more to see a period piece Batman. And, oh hell, film it in black-and-white. :D

As long as all the characters serve a clear dramatic purpose and make sense together, I think it will work. It's only a problem, really, if the whole thing feels disjointed and unfocused. This can happen when multiple villains are used to disguise the fact that a film doesn't really have anything to say, or when the villains aren't seen as menacing or compelling enough to carry a movie individually.

It sounds like the first part of this film will be a Broken Bat type story where Batman just gets overwhelmed by the sheer number of threats he is trying to cope with. So, from that point of view, a large number of villains is mandatory and should be effective.

And then, in the second half of the film, The Dark Knight Rises.

JA predicted this a few months back I think so I give him kudos. Alberto is indeed Holiday but it's way too early to assume he will actually be Holiday. Not surprising since Long Halloween and Dark Victory have been used as source material for the first two films.

Oh yeah, I agree completely. When it comes to alot of these big movies the constant rumor, confirmation of rumors, and then maybe it's true maybe it's not, stuff does get really annoying. I understand not wanting to much information about the movie to get out, but IMO sometimes it just gets ridiculous.
