And they intentionally link the fleet under the control of a program (in the works for decades), despite the fact that they had TWO huge problems with linked ships less than twenty years earlier? (Once in Lower Decks, and once in Prodigy.)

Starfleet shows it either overreacts or underreacts to problems. AI takes over in TOS? Meh, let's have an android able to lock down the systems!
This one really gets me because it really feels like Picard was just not in communication with the other shows, I guess there was no real way to adjust the storyline because it was so fundamental but it's really distracting, not only in universe but out of universe too given it's doing something the last two season finales that aired already did. That supposed showrunner group chat seemed to fall by the wayside or something.
To be fair to Lower Decks, I would assume ships that are all about assisting people within Federation space will have many that's not too far from core places doing stuff or just being on standby and I can buy a bunch are just close by Douglas Station which is positioned as a fairly central location (though it still felt too fast that so many showed up regardless, plus the fact that all the ones we know of in the show showed up is small universe too even if the whole point of the finale was the show celebrating it's own references). Though to be unfair to Lower Decks, that's my only real problem with wej duj, the premise is that they have a break because it's a long warp with nothing much to do, but I would assume long warps like that are a fairly common occurrence actually.
Same goes for when DSC and PIC both had mech-tentacles coming out of rifts that apparently were not connected. Or when PIC and LDS both had Riker warping in to the rescue in their season finales.
I had the same issue. Most of a starship's time should be spent on travel between star systems. Even aside from the logic of travel time, the crew would need time to recover physically and mentally from all the dangerous, traumatic situations they face.
yeah, I remember reading/watching that McMahan almost changed his season 1 finale because of Picard's though thankfully he didnt. I also remembered everyone wanted to use Wesley in a big way and it seems Prodigy won out on that. But then there's stuff like this where the shows look like they're repeating themselves. Riker coming to the rescue of someone he knows personally in a way that is set up by the story is one thing, the Federation making the same mstakes over and over again (even setting aside this also happening in TOS and DIS as well) does make them seem foolish.
I do have some issue with this but really I like it to the alternative, I dont think that shows should have constant references to the past just to have them, but I'm happy 32nd Century shows manage to reference the modern shows to encourage the feeling of things being in a shared universe.And that tribute Wall at Starfleet academy in the 32nd Century....has mostly only names of the characters from the other shows. Even Lt Jg Wesley Crusher who left StarFleet under strange circumstances never finishing the academy.....
I think it's pretty unfortunate that Picard is set a few years after Lower Decks and Prodigy and yet never references them to an almost deliberate degree, outside the uniforms in S3 feeling more like an evolution of the ones in the animated shows. Especially with the context that the other two 24th century shows are animated and different tonally and can often get separated in people's minds in the canon, I think those links are helpful in breaking down those barriers, especially since two shows as far as possible from Lower Decks in comparison (SNW and DIS) were able to do it. And it's a case where references not being makes the world feel small, because it feels like anything outside the events and people that directly relate to the cast don't exist.
