the creators of Star Trek sure like to torture certain characters

ive noticed for the old shows that the creators have a thing for having characters go through torture or be affected by a disease or whatever

Odo gets affected at least twice. once at quarks where odo's boy gets affected by something. then while Odo is visiting Garek's shop, Odo has a seizure or whatever. then Odo suffers through some torture where Garek uses some device to cause Odo to melt or whatever.

then there's characters like O Brien ,Worf, Picard, that get tortured the most physically, psychologically and emotionally.

Well, who doesn't suffer from aliens inhabiting and overtaking your body, transporter cloning or other incidents, viruses that slowly eat you or transform you back into an earlier stage of evolution every once in a while?

And they seem perfectly accustomed to it, there's never any lingering trauma.

They got to do something interesting to fill the airtime.

Had Aaron Spelling been the showrunner for TOS, there would certainly have been a lot more Uhura musical numbers. And had it been more comedic than it was, every week's song would sum up their victorious events. I'd've enjoyed seeing her take on AMOK TIME

I still maintain that Harry Kim holds the award.

O'Brien got kicked around something awful... but he reached a high rank for an enlisted man, and he had a loving family.

Worf had absolutely horrible luck in love, with both his lovers dying young... but he had a successful career.

Data had an incredibly stagnant career, and romance was a problem for him... but he did not suffer more than his share of hardships.

Harry had Data's career stagnation, Worf's disastrous luck in love, and took a pummeling almost as bad as O'Brien's.
