I was fourteen when Phantom Menace came out, I liked Jar Jar just fine back then, though I remember even among my peers at school he had his detractors back then,. I remember one kid constantly complaining "Jar Jar was an ass, he ruined every scene he was in." I'll admit, as I got older I've gotten less enamored with the character and will admit there are times in TPM he can be somewhat distracting. But I've never worked up the hatred many others seem to have of him, nor have I ever felt he was an ass or that he ruined the scenes he was in.

The episode in Clone Wars where he's paired with Mace Windu was great.

It's also kind of noteworthy in a lore sense, in that it clarifies that Talzin does not use the Force in the same way the Jedi and the Sith do. This helps to address the question of why her Force feats sometimes seemed to be more extreme than anything we'd seen in the OT or PT.

I was 13/14 when it came out. I found it annoying, and that was it. The level of disdain that was expressed, even after I joined a local fan club as an older teen surprised me.

I don't think he ruined it. I don't think he added to it. He just was there.

9 when TPM came out and was really indifferent to Jar-Jar, liked one or two of his scenes but otherwise saw him as just fine, average comic relief, pretty much still feel that way about him, think hatred of him quite excessive.

I was 24 going on 25 when TPM came out. He had some annoying, over-the-top moments but he never really bothered me in the theater and with rare exceptions has only become more tolerable since. He was an industry-changing CGI character designed for the younger people in the audience and in that context he worked just fine. Besides he actually gets to play an in-universe role in the rise of Palpatine to absolute power so that helps soften his goofier edges.

I think for me, and it has been a while since I've watched TPM, it wasn't so much that he was such a clumsy slapstick character, it's that there was no payoff. I expected there'd be a moment in the final battle where he'd come good and prove himself despite his ineptitude, and while he did have a role to play, if I remember right it was accidental and down to his clumsiness rather than anything else. I just tend to have a low threshold for characters who constantly save the day by accident or because of the help of their sidekick (one of the reasons I was never a huge Inspector Gadget fan) and I think Lucas leaned too far into that comedic schtick. Dialled down from 11 to 9 I might have liked Jar Jar more than I did.

I was 38 when TPM came out, so obviously not the target audience for Jar-Jar.
But I never thought him funny, just cringe.

Yeah, I could never get into Gadget for that exact reason.

I was 28 and liked Jar Jar. Still do.

Because it would be fun. Obviously, not for you, but I think it would be fun to show this dumb and notorious cult classic. Even better, show it for one day with no fanfare and no acknowledgement and pretend as if it never happened.

Why does MST3K marathon movies on Turkey Day? Why does Adult Swim sometimes show stuff like "Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos" on April Fools?

But, leaving that aside, given Lucas' antipathy towards it, and Kennedy's willingness to respect some of Lucas' wishes on older productions, I would again be curious what end this would serve from a business perspective?
