9.
I always really enjoyed that episode. As others have stated; not only the plot, but the whole episode has a very Shakespearean feel.

Re: The Conscience Of The King (episode rating and discussio

The background setting of this ep (the utilitarian crisis faced by Kodos) is more than enough for me to rate this ep a 10. If anything else though, it deserves at least an 11 rating (an extra point for the Shakespearean stuff).

Re: The Conscience Of The King (episode rating and discussio

What if you decide he is Kodos? What then? Do you play God, carry his head through the corridors in triumph? That won't bring back the dead, Jim.

No....but they may rest easier.

Who do I have to be?

This episode has some of the best dialogue.

Re: The Conscience Of The King (episode rating and discussio

And the great dramatic pause contest:

"Did you ... get everything ... you wanted, captain?"

"If I had gotten ... everything I wanted ... youmightnotleavethisroomalive."

I love the dialogue line when Kirk confronts Kodos ..."I am tired... Great Dramatic line!

Re: The Conscience Of The King (episode rating and discussio

"And the passst .... is a blurrrrr..."

:)

7; I didn't like the way Kirk used Lenore, and the ending (when McCoy asked Kirk if he really cared for her) makes Kirk seem rather cold. The Shakespearean references are good, though.

Re: The Conscience Of The King (episode rating and discussio

What? The ending made it clear he DID care for her.

Re: The Conscience Of The King (episode rating and discussio

It doesn't seem that way to me; he just sits there and gives his next command when McCoy asks him whether he cared for her or not.

Re: The Conscience Of The King (episode rating and discussio

McCoy asks. Kirk stares at him silently. McCoy reads his old friend like a book and says "That's an answer" with sympathetic a smile. Kirk sucks it up and moves on.

McCoy's reaction makes it clear to me that Kirk cared for her.

The background setting of this ep (the utilitarian crisis faced by Kodos) is more than enough for me to rate this ep a 10.

Yet that part makes zero sense. In fact, everything in the episode makes zero sense. But at least the two Karidians have the excuse of being crazy...

The plot is one gigantic mcguffin (with extra fries). You can see the seams in the set paintings, so to speak. But that's only fitting for this theatrical piece.

My take on the ending of this episode is that Kirk did not care for her, and was indeed using her. As well he should have. The silent stare Kirk gives McCoy is saying

"Are you kidding? I've got the Enterpise to worry about."

At least that's my take on it. I'll have to watch it again and I suspect I may agree with your interpretation.

I really like this episode a 8.5 on a scale of 1-10. It still was when they had money, with new sets to open the show up. Explore the history of some of the characters and still utilize some of the supporting characters. Not a classic, but definetly a keeper.

Knowing McCoy the humanist, do you think he would have smiled affectionately at that reaction? No, he would have erupted with anger, "My God, Jim, you used that poor, unbalanced girl in your obsession to catch Kodos!? That's inhuman!!"

I think Kirk's smile at him meant, "I'm too self-controlled to admit it to you, and I'm able to move on, but I bet you know me well enough to see that I did care for her." and Mccoy got it, smiled, nodded, "That's an answer."

i susspect kirk set out to just use her but along the way did start to care for her but couldnt show it at the end.
