The Colony - USA Network

The premise was good and the acting was good but it kind of left me cold. Too derivative of so many alien invasion stories. I guess I'm getting tired of the genre. Still I like cast and I like Cuse's post Lost shows so I'll stick with it.

I watched the first two episodes. The cast is particularly food. As someone said before, it has elements of The Alien Years by Robert Silverberg. Humans are separated and forced to live in blocs. People turn against each other and the aliens; the collaborators are slimy douchebags. They've already set up the first mystery in what the Factory is. Anyway, I like it WAY better than Falling Skies already.

I bailed on it as soon as they were driving the Homeland Security car over to the offices of the guy who makes fake IDs. These people (writers, characters, etc.) have heard of AVL, right?

I don't know what AVL is.
Automatic Vehicle Location (such as what's used in LoJack). You'd expect (I mean truly believe) a Homeland Security car to have it, and, to really spell it out, you'd expect software to automatically log everywhere the car goes. There's no logical reason why they haven't outed the guy who makes fake IDs, and no logical reason why the guy who makes fake IDs shouldn't have known he was being outed.

Would the satellites these AVL systems use still be operational?
GPS and satellites are not required. Various radio-based technologies could be used as fall-backs, if for whatever reason the aliens didn't provide the collaborators with some form of GPS. Besides that, the aliens would have simply look-down capability.

Anyway, I'm out. This show isn't for me. You guys enjoy!

Yeah that was pretty much my feeling. It was well executed for what it was, but you could pretty much predict how much of the season storyline was gonna go (which the preview confirmed), and there are just too many other, better options out there to waste my time on it.

There was an interesting bit when they were getting the fake ID's for Carlos's family.. the guy is using dead people for the fake ID's and he casually mentions they have better fake ID systems now than when he made them for Sawyer's family. So they have some mystery about who they all were and how they got to where they are now.

It's not a mystery. They already explained it. He was ex-Ranger and FBI. When the aliens came he wanted to hide, so he created the Billy "Sully" Sullivan alias. His real name is Will Bowman. This is clearly the guy who set up the Sullivan alias for the family.

I thought the second episode was better than the first but, as others have said, I can kind see how this whole season will play out. Still, I like the actors and the premise enough to see how the next few episodes will go. Not loving it yet but not quite ready to bail yet, either.

They did mention a little more about the invasion this episode, saying the aliens took out LA's defenses in 8 hours. Interesting shots of the damage to the downtown skyscrapers.

I hope it picks up. The first two episodes were pretty boring. Maybe that was me just being tired. I kept falling asleep during episode two.

Los Angeles had defenses?

I enjoyed the first couple episodes. It seems to me that this is one that's more about just dealing with living in the occupied city, and what people do to survive, more than actually fighting evil aliens. I doubt we'll see the aliens before the season finale, if not the series finale. If they show them at all before the very end, I doubt they'll play much of role in the individual episodes.
It's a much more interesting take on the alien invasion story for me than another V or Falling Skies would be.

Yeah I'm enjoying the political element in the family.

So I wonder if the people sent to the factory get eaten, used as fuel or some other surprise.
