Spoilers The Cloverfield Paradox

Whoa, did they really drop this movie with zero trailers or hype tonight (save the superbowl commercial)?

Netflix is breaking all the rules and it's awesome for it.

Definitely watching this asap. I adored 10 Cloverfield Lane (and Cloverfield was alright for what it was).

I still haven't seen 10 Cloverfield Lane, but I might have to watch it and Paradox soon.
I'm surprised that Netflix ended up with TCP, while 10CL is on Amazon Prime. I wonder if Netflix might try to get a hold of 10CL now that they have TCP.

I enjoyed 10 Cloverfield Lane quite a bit, so I'm definitely checking this out.

Between this, Star Trek Discovery, and Mrs. Gepard wanting to watch the latest episode of This is Us, there's way too much media to consume tonight.

Just finished the movie. I never saw the original Cloverfield (POV and you don't really see the monster? No thanks), and I thought that 10CL was ok by very overrated.

That said, I enjoyed this a lot. Its more Sci Fi then the other two, and the space station setting is cool. Iy had one or two odd plot things, but overall its a very enjoyable film. I don't want to go into spoilers, so I'll just say that even if you don't like the other two movies I'd recommend this if you like Sci Fi films.

Also, you don't need to see the other movies. As long as you are aware that the original Cloverfield was about a monster attacking the Earth, you'll be fine.

I started the movie as soon as the Superb Owl ended and just finished it. I'm a bit surprised the influx of viewers didn't melt Netflix's servers but Cloverfield isn't exactly a huge franchise.

SPOILERS AHEAD!

As someone who actually quite liked both previous installments of Cloverfield, I felt this one was a bit disjointed. I really liked the character bits (which is most definitely JJ Abrams' strength) but the execution of the effects of the paradox felt like the writers threw a bunch of freaky yet rote sci-fi ideas and twists into a big pot and stirred, resulting in the Cloverfield Paradox. While the movie entertained me enough, the whole thing felt like a supersized episode of Black Mirror or Twilight Zone with a few references to Cloverfield and an obligatory Cloverfield monster thrown in at the end to link it to that franchise. The exact same could be said about 10 Cloverfield Lane but I thought that episode in a bottle worked better, even with its flaws.

Kudos to Netflix for continuing to upend movie and TV distribution methods, though, and bring them kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

It's really bad. Like really, really bad. Almost none of the characters are developed (which means I cared about none of them), things happen just because the script says so, the dialogue is terrible (oodles of exposition dumps) and worst of all, it's a complete bore. Huge disappointment, especially since I loved 10 Cloverfield Lane.

Well, no mystery as to why this sat on a shelf for so long before being dumped onto Netflix. Hope they didn't pay full price for it.

I'd be willing to bet that all the Cloverfield stuff was added long after the original shooting too.

If this were just a Netflix Sci-Fi horror movie, it would be passable... The action was decent and the suspense was ok.. It was kind of like "Alien-lite"... I just don't see why they had to try to shoehorn in a connection to Cloverfield... If they want to make a Cloverfield sequel, then they should just make a Cloverfield sequel... Trying to connect this to that took me out of the movie.

Doesn't that kind of go against the point that they're making, with these being sequels in a less traditional (I say more creative) way?

10 Cloverfield Lane wasn't a traditional sequel to Cloverfield at all, and it was better for it.

Well done to Netflix for successfully marketing a shitty straight-to-video sequel as some kind of massive disruption to the film industry I suppose, that was exciting for about two hours before people actually saw the nick of it

Traditional or not, 10 Cloverfield Lane was intended to be a sequel, and you're right... It definitely was better for being non-traditional... That may be true of Paradox as well, but for me it just felt forced...

I'll watch it later tonight hopefully, but like all Netflix films I just think... if it's actually good why not just release it in theatres/cinemas? You know they're not gonna be amazing.

I was just reading a breakdown of the movie and I think I'm going to have to watch it again to form a better opinion. While the review definitely called it out for retconning the Cloverfield elements, it didn't make it sound as shoehorned as I thought... For now I'll blame watching it late, after the game, while I was still in a food coma.

Will Netflix ever make a good feature film?

EDIT: I guess Beasts of No Nation was good
Count me as a big fan of War Machine, a movie that may not have interdimensional beasties, but, especially in light of our ongoing war effort in Afghanistan, deserves to be seen and discussed:
