The City On The Edge Of Forever

Oh, getting stuff out of archives can be a pain. I contacted KQED, one of the biggest PBS stations in the country, just to find out if they have tapes of a 1978 show of their own making in their archives, and basically received the brush-off due to lack of person power. And I didn't even ask them for anything other than "do you still have it?"

I have always been a bit cynical about this episode, and its cult status as the best ever Star Trek, and I have read articles about the writers disdain and unhappiness with what Roddenberry done to his story, but at the end of the day, I have several favourite Star Trek episodes that I consider way better than this one.
My main reason for not being totally in love with City is because I actually cant stand Joan Collins, actually I dislike her with a passion.

I think Collins was fine in the episode, even if she was given some rubbish dialog. The themes of the original script got bled dry by the time it hit the air.

That's certainly true. The notion that someone with Keeler's values would be moved by visions of rocket ships in the future and other such pie-in-the-sky stuff was silly and didn't come from Ellison IIRC.
