The Chief and the chello

CorporalClegg

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
I'm trying to remember if we every actually saw him play during DS9's run.

I know he talked about it several times, but I don't remember him playing.

I'm watching "The Ensigns of Command" right now and he plays in a quartet with Data and two nobodies and the beginning and it just made me think of it.

I also don't remember seeing him play in DS9. The only thing I can think of that he did for fun that was mentioned in both series was riding the rapids.

I think he broke it hitting Keiko on the head for being so annoying. I think you see the remains when Chief is trying to console Worf after Jadzia's death. Worf looks don knowingly and simply smiles a knowing smile.

Definitely no cello in DS9. In fact, until this thread it had been so long since I'd seen that episode of TNG that I'd forgotten he even played the cello.

For that matter, I don't think we ever see him playing it again after the Ensigns of Command. Maybe he really did hit Keiko with it.

I seem to remember somewhere in DS9 O'Brien said his parents wanted him to be a professional cello player but he joined Starfleet instead. In regards to the cello being smashed, don't forget Worf likes to smash musical instruments.

He was talking to Jake shortly after Jake started working for him. At this point, we learn that Jake doesn't want to be in Starfleet, but he doesn't know how to tell his dad. O'Brien tells Jake that his dad wanted him to be a professional cello player, but he didn't, so he joined Starfleet right before he was supposed to go to the music academy, and he dad not only learned to accept it, he turned out to be very proud of him.

I'm pretty sure it's in late season 2, but I'm totally blanking on the episode.

I believe it was Keiko, not miles.

Cello. Stradivarius. :)

I don't remember actually seeing him play -- do you see it in TNG? I don't know if the actor is also a cellist, but I do love watching actors pretend to play stringed instruments!

I only have one thing to say, paraphrasing Christopher Walken in SNL, "I've got a fever. And the only prescription is more cello!" -- RR

Yes, Miss "I Know Everything About Star Trek," I said I saw it in "The Ensigns of Command" or weren't you paying attention? :p

No idea. And, for me, watching someone pretend to play an instrument is like having teeth pulled. But whatever floats your boat.

^Oh, I just think it's funny. Though it can pull you out of the moment at times. And no, I am terrible! I don't remember that episode!
I was just interested because the cello is my instrument. :)
