The character I have always wanted to see. Voyager's first chief engineer!

I'm surprised they never did an alternate reality/time travel episode where Chakotay or Paris had to interact with/work with Cavit, Stadi, Fitzgerald and the Chief Engineer. Hell, it could have worked in Shattered, or even in Relativity.

Shattered- Chakotay is trying to enlist the help of a group of pre-DQ crew.

Stadi: So if what you're saying is correct, we should restore your timeline. We'll be in for a hard time, for sure, but we'll all pull through, together!

Chakotay <blushing> well.. together is such a relative term ... to be honest, not all of you are guaranteed to make it . What the ... I'm going to be brutally honest. None of you will make it. Stadi, you won't even survive the displacement to the DQ. As won't you, Cavit. At least you two will do better than mr Chief Engineer over here, we never even found out your name, you were dead before you ever graced the screen. Hogan, you'll be devoured by some primeval monster. We still have your femur though, handed to us by a friendly Voth scientist. Ballard, I trust your corpse being reanimated by an alien entity doesn't bother you too much. Jetal, you'll die because the EMH thought it more important to save Harry Kim. Carey, a post-DQ Janeway told me that although she traveled back 26 years in time to save one of her favorite crew members, she couldn't be arsed to travel back 4 weeks more to also save you. No hard feelings, right?

Well, now that we're all in the open, let's go to work and do what must be done!....hey, where did everybody go?

Reportedly, Ayala did speak in a few of the 120 or so episodes he was in. But I still consider him Voyager's answer to Morn, sort of... Ayala got lines, but Morn got an episode.
