The Bunny starts dance lessons

Sorry, no pics as requested, RAMA. I had my hands full learning the steps.

I learned the basic moves for the Argentine Tango this morning in my free introductory lesson. I was originally going to do some Foxtrot, too, but my instructor is the tango instructor and I was doing so well that she spent the time teaching me some advanced stuff (at my request).

I had so much fun! I'm doing the classic beginner mistakes, like having trouble letting someone else lead. And I have trouble keeping my stance where I'm supposed to be. But for only 1 hour's worth, I did really well and I had a ball.

So keep your eyes peeled. In a few months, I want to get the dance down. Then I'm going to work towards performing and competing on the amateur circuit.

I have evolved. And I have a plan.

CD :D :D :D :D

Good move on your part, CD! I remember taking a ballroom dance class in college, learning all kinds of steps: Foxtrot, Tango, Waltz, Cha-cha, and so much more. It was such a nice alternative to the brain-draining programming & analysis classes.

Did you have a partner? I'm going in without one, but since I'm little miss social butterfly, that won't really be a problem for me. And they encourage changing partners during group classes.

Nope, no partner. I needed a few university req hours and had had enough of the intense ones, so I went for something a little more relaxing yet still edifying. Our teacher made us practice with different partners throughout each class. Needless to say when it was time for the final exam, that really helped. Of course, you could rehearse with the same person with whom you'd be dancing for the final, but each different dance in the final had to be with a different partner.

I'd love to learn how to dance someday. But I'm a clumsy coward.

No one has done the "bunny hop" joke yet? :p

Neither my wife nor I could ever dance for shit. When we go to weddings or some other event like that we seriously consider having one of us wearing an ankle brace to it to get out of it.

Man, my calves are sore this morning. But I'm all excited and walking around all hippity hoppity (that one's for you, Neroon!).

Okay, update. I've taken two Argentine Tango group class lessons and 2 private lessons on Argentine and Tango. Foxtrot was pretty meh for me.

Salsa group class was pretty fun. There was an advanced student in there who really helped me with my spins and my instructor helped me more. I took one group class in Lindy Hop and got so dizzy I thought I might throw up (a la Mc Coy in that yummy trailer released by Paramount).

I LOVE the Argentine Tango. Love the Ochos, love the theatrics. I'm really getting a taste for the Latin dances. I'm really tempted to go to the Rumba and Cha Cha classes and see if I like them.

And I bought some dance sneakers so I can glide along the floor while I'm practicing.

I LOVE the Argentine Tango. It is a fabulous dance. :D Glad to hear you're enjoying the classes.

I took tap classes for a couple of years from 2003 - 2005 and really miss them. I still have my tap shoes though, and still put them on and walk around in them; they still feel great on.

Muwahahahah! I am totally dominating salsa. One more month of that stuff and I'll test out of level 1 for level 2 in salsa.

And even though it's week 3, I'm going to sneak into Cha Cha and Rumba tonight. I'm tired of being sick and having to miss class.
