The bridge shots (large images)

Re: The bridge shots

^Ok unless either of you have parts in the movie's production process, you're both wrong. If you are in the movie's production process, you've both broken multiple confidentiality clauses and you are in a lot of trouble.

Re: The bridge shots

That is NOT Uhura. At all. She's a white, no-name, redshirted Yeoman. That's all. The guy interviewed about the pic at MTV.com said so.

Re: The bridge shots

I think the shots are excellent! The original uniforms have never looked better, and from just the brief glimpse of the bridge, it looks like the bridge of the Big-E has never looked better either! I'm really excited and I love the colors that they have so far. It doesn't look bland, it looks live and vibrant, something that's been lacking for a while! And I love the stark contrast between the pictures of the crew and the bridge to the one of Nero, wherever he is.

I'm really excited about this movie!

Re: The bridge shots

I kinda like it.

I hope against hope though, that they won't have exploding consoles. Alas they probably will, lol.

About the lighting issues, here's the kinda lighting you have on real, functioning bridges (all of these pictures can be enlarged to high resolution by clicking the Download HiRes link at the right):

However it's a bit misleading I guess because during the day those bridges are lit by a lot of natural sunlight coming through the windows. A starship in in space is a different matter. A better comparison would be the Tactical Command Center or Combat Direction Center located below decks and with no outside natural lighting:

The blue lighting is deliberate.. it's less tiring on the eyes of people who have to watch computer screens and consoles for long periods.

They even have big ole screen setups in there not dissimilar to the ST main viewscreen for seeing what's going on outside (the one in this pic is on the Enterprise ironically enough):

You know what? I LOVE IT! Anything to wipe the slate clean. 40 years is more than enough time for us to cling on. Time to pass Trek down to the next generation for another 40 years.

Re: The bridge shots

That Thunderbirds cockpit looks way better.

Both are Paramount, maybe the same designer?

Anyway, in the EW article, it says about the bridge:

it's now blazingly white and glistening with light and glass. Apple Store, anyone? ''People would joke, 'Where's the Genius Bar?''' says Abrams, somewhat defensively. ''To me, the bridge is so cool, it makes the Apple Store look uncool.''

I just puked on my keyboard.

Also, to the person who just posted pix of real bridges- I should hope someone designing a pretend starship bridge would consider such things (as Roddenberry, an ex military man, did for TOS) but when it comes to the final design, as Uhura said, "this isn't reality- this is fantasy!"

P.S. it seems the Kelvin has one nacelle. The world is ending in 5, 4, 3, 2...

Re: The bridge shots

These shots... they just scream "nuke the fridge" to me.

Rolleyes me all you want, but I can't help a gut reaction.

I think that may be the deflector dish, and the ship inverted relative to the camera.

If the ship was inverted relative to the camera, then the Ship's name and registry are backward.

No...I think the nacelle is supposed to be below the saucer, and above the saucer is a secondary hull with a deflector dish -- by design, not due to camera angle.

I hope your gut is wrong. Hopefully, the Freedom Fridge won't be making an appearance.

Anyways, looking at the photo of the cast in front of the viewer, I could have sworn for a second that it was freestanding as opposed to being built into a wall. Anyone else see this or am I blind as a bat?

Re: The bridge shots

I think it's brilliant. This is nowhere as dark and gritty as I'd expected it to be, it's the exact opposite. I'm blinded. Blinded and happy.
