The Break-Up

... to have and to hold
from this stardate forward;
for better, for worse,
for richer, for Shinzon,
in animation and in health,
to love and to cherish,
till cancellation us do part...

I now pronounce you Fan and Franchise. You may kiss Paramount's ass.

Listening at all to what "the fans" say they want to see is a mistake.

Agreed. I amend my statement.

However, by listening to the fans bitch about Spock's death, it got moved to the end of the movie, thereby making the overall product much, much better.

Fan favorite Nicholas Meyer had some things to say about "giving fans what they want" during the production of TWOK. In a nutshell: it's not the filmmakers job to give people what they want, but to make the film he/she wants to make and to let them discover that it's what they wanted. ;)

We won't know how much work she's had done until Christmas of 2008.

And I'm not suggesting we kiss Abrams' ass until then. I'm suggesting we wait and see. What do we have to lose?

I just went into an alternate timeline in which everybody did as you suggest.

I went into the Star Trek XI forum in this alternate future. There was only one thread:

"Are you going to buy snacks at the concession?"

BOOOOORING.

Actually, I think this forum has gotten boring of late in this timeline, so I guess I'd rather have the other one.

Maybe this is the wrong thread, but umm, I've been two-timing the ol' braod with Dr. Who and Heros, and they seem to do a lot for me.

So umm, good luck, Trek, and hopefully you won't be disrespected by the mob, or your new pimp.

Didn't Roddenberry say something like if he did Star Trek the way the fans wanted it it would be shit? It was something like that.

Spock's death was moved because it was spoiled in some con (and that's why they added a fake death at the beginning). If the producers actually listened to the fans' bitching, Spock wouldn't have died at all. The producers stood their ground and we got a great film.

If Paramount would really listen to the fans, then the next movie would need to have the crews from all the shows, exept for TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT because it sucked(cross out the option relevant to you).
The plot would involve the time-ship Enterprise-W from the 45th century, being piloted by section 31 agents going back in time to resurrect Kirk/Trip/Sisco/Data since he's the only one capable to rebuild the federation and defeat the combined klingon, Romulan, Dominion, Borg & 8472 forces.
The movie will be character driven with a 70 minute long space battle.

They were right -- fans are idiots.

I used to love quiet times when Trek and I would just cuddle.

Going to see XI will be like visiting an ex-girlfriend. Well hey, honey, I've moved on, too. I now own more "Simpsons" DVDs than I do Trek ones. And by the way babe, I noticed your syndication cuts. Left me cold.

Agreed, because there aren't enough 'fans' to guarantee a hit film. Trek XI will have to have a wider appeal to be able to be considered a success.

I don't really take this seriously. I tend to think of my fandom more in terms of cheering for my favorite sports teams (Cardinals, Blues, and Rams for me). The fans all love to say that if the managers would only manage the team the way we want them too, they'd win the championship. But we are idiots -- we don't know how to manage a sports team, hell, we've most likely never even played the sport in high school. It's just fun to BS about how WE'D run things, and how our brilliant idea would win the championship, save the team, and make every game a sellout.

It all makes sense after a few beers.

Yep, CreationCon in 1988.

Okay, now THAT'S funny!!

I especially love the "Cross out the option relevant to you" part. Only problem here is there's no significant VOY character to add to the list of "Gotta go save ____" to stop the "_______" forces from conquering the galaxy.

Pretty good stuff, and definitely a "Fanboyz and Fangrrls" only script, eh?

I bet $10 that exact thing is somewhere on Youtube. There's a 60's batman/Tos crossover -- so why not. I just don't think I'd wanna see it in the theaters.
