The boy Kirk passed in the Corvette

I think making it Johnny instead of Georgie makes more sense since they deleted the scene with Kirk's Stepdad. The novel - not canon - keeps him as George Jr. It also says that James T. Kirk was a rather straightlaced kid that never caused problems up until then.

I saw George, Jr., again tonight, and it kinda grieves me they cut him out. I wish there were a way to put him back. Loved George, Sr.

I saw it again tonight and made sure to pay close attention. It really sounded to me like he said "Georgie."

I don't know why they changed it. It makes that whole corvette scene even more pointless and irrelevant than it already is. And why even bother having some kid trying to "get away" if it's not supposed to be Sam?

I just looked it up kirk said "hey johnny"

If they mentioned that it was Kirk's brother, it would've been confusing, as we saw his ma and pa on the Kelvin with Jim being born...people would wonder where this older brother (not much older, so maybe 4 or 5 whenthe Kelvin got it) was the whole time.
By the way...where was he?

Probably with Grandpa Jim or Grandpa Tiberius while Mom and Dad were out on ship duty - isn't Kirk's Mom supposed to be an officer as well?

Anyway, I definitely heard 'hey, Johnny' when James stole the car. I'm going to choose to interpret that 'Johnny' is used as a slang term in the twenty-third century, and that it's still George Jr. there, not some random hitchhiking kid he knows. That's my story, I'm sticking to it.

Yes never underestimate the power of denial. ;)

I just saw it again tonight too, and he definitely says "Johnny". Shame, I would have liked some acknowledgement of George Kirk Jr. as well. I presume they cut all references to him to help cement Jim Kirk's character as a rebellious loner, which is probably easier for audiences to swallow if he appears to be an only child.

It served no purpose to rename him Johnny in the new cut. He didn't even need to be there. So either keep him as Sam (and if you get it you get it, if you don't you don't) or cut the part out.

I was expecting him to be George Jr.

But it was disapointing to hear him shout Johnny. :(

Wouldve been a good nod to TOS, but hey, never mind.

Least it is in the book. Cant grumble really.
