The Borg vs the Medusans, a what if...

True, and if we were discussing Borg assimilating Tholians, Founders or some Plant based alien species you’d have a point. But I fail to see how the Borg could assimilate an energy based life form like the Medusans or the Calamaran...

The Borg assimilate at the molecular level. There’s no reason why they couldn’t alter the molecular structure of a non-corporeal being into a corporeal one.

Voyager neutered the Borg so much that their capabilities get downplayed a lot.

In the novel verse a female Q talks with the Borg Queen and they start scanning the Q and the queen makes a vague threat to the Q, who leaves kind of freaked out.

It's not inferred that the Borg are an immediate threat but that with sufficient time and effort they may well become one.

That's the "real borg" in my head

Creatures without true shape or form have nothing to fear from those that do have it! How can a Borg drone hurt an Organian? A Medusan is a ball of light living in a box!!! Trelane's parents? A Q? It's like us trying to shoot at a torch light hitting the floor! It would go right through without any effect whatsoever!

Just using TNG the Borg are no match for the Q.

With a snap a Q could hurl the Borg cube across the galaxy.

I don't know for sure, which is why I said 'I think'.

But I reason that based on what we have seen on screen over the decades. Sensors have been able to detect solid, gaseous, and liquid phenonema and entities.

But never Q, or Nagilum as another example. Thasians, Organians, Trelane's folks, and others took a form so they can communicate... in the Thasians' case, it was to have something solid in order to bring Charlie back to the planet.

But you're not thinking like a Borg. They have assimilated thousands of species across thousands of light-years. Their technology far outweighs the Federation's. If anyone knows how to assimilate non-corporeal, gaseous, etc. entities, it's the Borg.

You're right, I'm not thinking like a Borg. I still have my individuality.

I guess I need to think like a Borg too so I can come up with batshit crazy theories too.
Maybe we can all speculate what it would be like to think like a Borg? That would be a perfect topic for this message board

Oh, and the Harry/Night Court joke was funny, trust me on this.

Something that’s funny only to you and not anyone else means that it’s not actually all that funny.

And if you have nothing else to contribute to the discussion other than silly trollish comments, perhaps you should find another bbs to frequent.

Publicly accusing somebody of trolling is potentially actionable. Let's just move on from this tangent, please.

And you know this how?

cor·po·re·al
kôrˈpôrēəl/Submit
adjective
relating to a person's body, especially as opposed to their spirit.
"he was frank about his corporeal appetites"
having a body.
"a corporeal God"
synonyms: bodily, fleshly, carnal, corporal, somatic, human, mortal, earthly, physical, material, tangible, concrete, real, actual, this-worldly
"they tried to bring Satan into corporeal existence"

Definition of corporeal
1 : having, consisting of, or relating to a physical material body: such as
a : not spiritual
… some few traces of a diviner nature which look out through his corporeal baseness …
—Robert Browning
b : not immaterial or intangible : SUBSTANTIAL
corporeal property

By definition molecules are tangible. The device you access this website with is comprised of molecules. You can touch it. It's physical, tangible, corporeal. It's a physical thing. Molecules are physical things. You feel the wind, you smell the scents.

A gaseous object or being would be corporeal. Gas is made of molecules.

In contrast if something is non-corporeal then it's not tangible. It's not physical.

So the problem comes down to "are Medusans, Organians, etc.. corporeal or non-corporeal?" If they are non-corporeal, then they, by definition, are not made up of molecules. It's the definition of the word non-corporeal.

Now, they may be comprised of some physical or tangible property we have not discovered yet. X-rays, gamma rays, etc.. have existed since the universe began yet for the majority of human history those particles were unknown and undetectable by any means. So, if a Medusian is a corporeal being composed of something that, while real, our science (or the science of the time) cannot define or explain, then maybe they are at risk to the Borg.

Q being scared of the Borg though? I don't seem to recall that ever happening. Between being able to travel in time, disappear at whim, actually give other beings advanced powers and abilities, or shrink objects to the size of a keychain, I don't see where the Borg are much of a threat.

And I posit that the Borg may have found ways to assimilate non-corporeal beings differently than how they assimilate corporeal beings. We just haven't seen any evidence of this onscreen because so far we've only viewed corporeal beings being assimilated. Just because we haven't seen it doesn't mean that it can't be done.

And later in the same novelverse, the Borg are all assimilated by a more superior race who save the galaxy.

The Borg can only do whatever the writers tell them to do.
