The Book Of Boba Fett

Yeah, probably. I just think it would be cool to get to see Daniel Logan come back too. He did come for TCW, so at least he's already been back before.

I wouldn't mind seeing him back again too since he played the young version and in the Clone Wars Boba still looked like him.

While it'd be cool for Logan to finally get to wear the armor (there's a cute video of him in the AotC special features where he's examining "his" armor in the visual dictionary) the dude is in his mid 30's now, so as babyfaced as he may be, there's no way he's pulling off a late teens Boba in a Clone Wars flashback. If it's more around the time of 'Solo' or the Kenobi show then it's a bit more doable, but the closer you get to the OT, the harder it'll be to sell the idea that he'll suddenly morph into Temuera Morrison in the next handful of years...unless hair and make-up to an astonishingly good job of bridging that gap.

Yeah, after my last post I realized that there really isn't much of a window for where Logan could actually appear.

Well, boba didn't take off his helmet at all in empire and rotj so a flashback could easily just be mando style voice over. And a deaged version if he does take it off.

I thought of making this it's own thread, but that felt like too much

LucasFilm is allegedly retiring the name 'Slave 1'

The box of a Slave 1 lego set was revealed (leaked?) recently, and it's only labelled as 'Boba Fett's Starship', not Slave 1, like previous sets have been (and toys)

https://www.thathashtagshow.com/2021/06/27/boba-fetts-slave-i-will-have-a-new-name/

"A report from the Boba Fett Fan Club looks as if the Slave I name is done for good. This report talks about an interview with Jedi News, BrickSet, LEGO Star Wars Lead Designer Michael Lee Stockwell, and LEGO Star Wars Design Director Jens Kronvold Frederiksen where they talked about the official name change."

Yeah seen that.. 40 years was the name of the ship.. More "enlightened" drivel..

If they don't like the ship name blow it up and move on.

I am trying to remember...was it every named on screen?
No, I don't believe it was. As far as I'm concerned? Meh. It doesn't change the story being told in the slightest. This is even more of a nothingburger than whether Han or Greedo shot first. Just something else for the fan base to get all fragile over.

ETA: Or as Norm from Cheers would ask, "How does this affect the price of beer?"

The name lacks an intrinsic coolness, on-screen usage, and internal logic. Is the ship the slave? Was Boba/Jango? And why "One"? Was Boba the leader of "Slave Squadron" in the Mandalorian Wars? Was he already anticipating replacing it with that weird flying brick with the nonsense piston? Makes no damn sense.

Firespray is already pretty good name, if they want to make the retcon as simple as possible.

It was said out loud by Aurra Sing in a single episode of Clone Wars, but other than that no, never in the movies or live action TV.

The name first appeared in the original ESB novelization and toys.

I always hated the name. I don't think even the Old EU made sense of it, because I don't think that even Boba's pre-prequel EU origin ever had him being a slave or having a connection to slavery. So, honestly, this is one change I'd be fine with. It would honestly be hard to think of a worse name for his ship then Slave 1 (assuming you're actually trying to think of a good name and not just making a joke about it, obviously).

There's no need to change the name. Nor does it have to have a particular meaning. Slave 1 is better than Boba Fett's Starship. It's not like slavery doesn't still exist in Star Wars anyway. It's depicted often.

It was in fact always Sleigh One. Boba had real issues with Santa, what with Him delivering to about a zillion incorrect Sons of Jango Fett.

(Plenty of advertising hereabouts actually mistranslated the name that way.)

While the ship was named in the novel and comic adaptation, the Empire screenplay simply listed it simply as "Boba Fett's starship." Its not a huge deal to me one way or another honestly.

It's a bit odd to get agitated about slavery in a franchise named Star WARS, really. A central hero chops children to pieces with a lightsaber, while all the rest either chop adults to pieces with a lightsaber, or shoot holes in them with a blaster. Audiences cheer. And slavery is cool, too.

...Perhaps there will be a surprise revelation eventually that everybody who ever died in SW was a droid, and droid lives don't matter? Otherwise, the moral gyrocompass of SW has been locked since day one. (Okay, okay, day IV if you insist.)

What's interesting is the official Databank entry calls it Slave 1, but the URL is 'boba-fetts-starship'

https://www.starwars.com/databank/boba-fetts-starship

No idea how long it has been like that, the old 'slave-1' URL redirects to it, so wookieepedia revisions aren't a help, but someone changed the link there yesterday.

It's probably connected to search results or something.

Just to put this in perspective before anyone gets carried away: they're (understandably) opting not to put the word "slave" on a toy they intend to sell to children. They're not giving it a new name, they're just referring to it by a descriptor instead.
Oh and incidentally: the box for the classic Kenner toy released in '81 calls it "Slave I: Boba Fett's Spaceship". So there's your precedent right there...

All that said, can't say as it'd bother me if the name does get changed. It's one of those strange artefacts of Star Wars lore that I've never been able to find an origin for. I've looked into this before and as far as I can tell it's in none of the preproduction materials for tESB; the script doesn't give it a name and all the Joe Johnston concept sketches I can find only labels it "Boba Fett's Ship".

So far as I can tell the earliest it crops up is in the novelization published in April of 1980. A close second is in the comic Star Wars #42 (part of Marvel's six part comic book adaptation) that went on sale the following September. So either way it seems like it was one of many names made up during post production specifically for (or possibly by) LF's licencing division.

As for the logic of the name itself; it does make some sense. Fett was meant to be one of the main villains of the film after all, so a villainous ship name seems appropriate, and as a bounty hunter in a galaxy where slavery is a thing, it's a safe bet (at this point of the character's conception at least) he's sometimes sent after runaway slaves (like you know, technically Chewbacca!)
This is just my own hypothesis backed up by "bugger" and "all", but what I suspect happened is that someone decided to call it something like "The Slaver" or "The Slaver 1" and that got cut down to just "Slave I" simply because it "sounded better".

Here's my completely unsolicited take, balanced against my own general biases against Fett and his ship. One, it was a dumb name. It made no sense when I saw it on ancillary materials (Micro Machines and toy figure packaging being my first exposure) and I just shrugged it off. It was a rather strange name, at best.

Now, does it make some sense? Yeah, the cross-section has holding cells for prisoners and Fett would not be ignorant of those prisoners potential use. But, as far as memorable names? Well, honestly, the only time I remember it was from a line in "Tales from Jabba's Palace" and Fett goes "Shouldn't have named it that."
