The Book Of Boba Fett

I’m guessing his idea of ruling with respect, comes from his interactions with this tribe of Tuskens.

They seem different from other tuskens we’ve seen in lore. Different clothes too.

Premiere was okay, not mindblowing. The main appeal is watching Morrison and Wen perform, though there wasn't enough of the latter.

The "revelation" of how he got out of the Sarlacc was underwhelming; okay, so he was in it and he used his gear to get out. Anyone could've guessed that, really. Although it amusingly bears some resemblances to Boba's escape in the original Marvel SW comics, which also involved him being scavenged by Jawas after he got himself out (though in a different way).

Also, they should've included a brief clip from Return of the Jedi to establish how he got in the pit in the first place -- maybe a quick montage of clips from Empire and Jedi showing how his work for Vader and Jabba led to that fate. I mean, yeah, of course this is made mostly for the fans who already know his backstory, but it's just basic good storytelling practice to approach every story as if it's somebody's first, and to give everyone enough information to catch up even if they don't know the backstory -- or to refresh their memories if they do. Heck, even though I have known the backstory for 38 years, the flashbacks still felt incomplete to me without showing what led Boba to end up in the Sarlacc, because that's a key part of the narrative being revisited. They did include a clip from Episode II, so they could've included clips from the other movies too. If actor clearances were an issue, they could've edited around shots of Luke, Leia, and Han.

It's weird to see Boba portrayed as this honorable criminal type, when he's been treated in the past as a sinister figure of pure malevolence. I guess he has so little canonical backstory -- aside from his childhood vendetta against Obi-Wan -- that there's room for such a characterization, but it's still a change from expectations. Of course, it's obvious why they did it; even in a show centered on a crime lord, they want the audience to sympathize with him, so they make him a nobler, humbler crime lord than his predecessors. Though I hope the series fleshes out more of his backstory to explore how he formed his values and outlook. He's still kind of a blank slate at this point.

Probably, although I was surprised that even before then, he offered to help the Rodian escape. I was expecting the Rodian to beg for rescue and Boba to ignore him and only help himself. So they established that Boba had a decent streak to start with.

Stands to reason that groups from different parts of the planet would have their own cultural variations, despite the tendency of much screen sci-fi to stereotype entire planets as having only a single culture and fashion sense.

My guess is that the moisture farm we see the raiders attack is similar to the Lars Homestead but not the same. It's gutted by weapons fire and damaged in ANH and still damaged as late as TROS so this is probably just a very similar homestead with some of the same equipment. Mos Espa must have "boroughs" of a sort outside that rock pit and lying outside the central core of the outpost. We know rocks and tall stone pillars are nearby since the Podrace Arena sits in a similar area so maybe Jabba's old arena is on the other side of the rock wall?

Boba's robe in Mando S2, and the clothes under his armour are also black, so yeah, he probably gets them from this tribe. Plus the Gaderffii stick and rifle.

Interesting first episode.

This was a lot quieter and flashback heavy than I expected. But Morrison was up to the task.

In the back of my mind, I'm still left wondering why Boba waited so long to go and reclaim his armor from Cobb Vanth. But there are some intriguing pieces in the flashbacks that may give us some idea. His time with the Tuskens appears to have changed Boba in some ways, brought out a sense of honor he didn't show prior. We've obviously seen that side of Boba on The Mandalorian already, but it's interesting to see it taking shape in the flashback sequences.

His robes from the Mandalorian now make a lot of sense (and look better as the undersuit for the armor than they gray from the OT). I'm curious if something happened to this tribe of Tuskens that has spurred Boba to go off on his own again, or if he left them behind and has some other motivation in play.

His handling of the Mos Espa underworld certainly has less a ring of "Look at all my power and wealth" than it does "There's a new sheriff in town." I'm curious how his new sense of honor or nobility is formed and what shape it takes now that he holds Jabba's throne.

That homestead Boba and the young Tusken came across looked an awful lot like the Lars homestead.
The homestead appears to be completely different, but it appears to be either in the same location, or in a location with the same topography. Also, the guys that attacked that homestead appear to be the same species, attire and weapon as the guys that would attack Tosche station.

I have forgotten the actual storylines of the individual episodes, but he appeared to have decency in him in his youth. That didn't appear at odds with the young Boba in Clone Wars. Certainly more layers to him (here and in Clone Wars) to justify a series, and the whole Clones thing. He's no Jabba.

So what was with the weird claim that everything from the trailers was from the first half of the first episode?

No idea. That rumor was all over the place in the leadup to this morning. It was either WeGotThisCovered levels of inaccurate or the biggest planned misdirection in a while.

That was always a part of Fett even in the ancillary materials prior to the PT. He was a hunter but a man driven by a specific code of justice that informed his bounty hunting ways. He was not a savage or unreasonable, but could be a very pragmatic, if cold, businessman. It was an interesting little tidbit even on the action figure fact file back in 1995ish.

IIRC in the EU, Dengar rescued him from the pit the second time and they became good friends. Fett was even the best man at his wedding.

"New Republic credits? Those are no good to me out he...

wait.

NEW Republic? You're my new best friend!!!"

No, Tosche Station's from an upcoming episode. What we saw this week is just another moisture farm.

But we only saw the inside in the trailer, how do you know what we saw this week isn't the exterior? I assumed they were setting up Fett's knowledge of the closest human outpost to the Raiders encampment. That said, I don't know how much of the outside we saw in the original deleted scene, so I didn't take that into account.

Here's the scene from Star Wars.
