Now, what does ignite more easily is copious amounts of gas vapor fumes in an enclosed space that have been given enough time to build up. And a 9mm discharge puts off a lot more incendiary heat than a cigarette does. Those two things should have cooked off the van instantly.
So yes, I agree that Hollywood makes a habit of ignoring the science behind explosions, just that they did it in reverse this time.
