The birdemic has begun!

I know crows will sometimes attack people if their near its nest, but it seems a tad early for that, yet.
It's right on time for crow nesting season, actually. I haven't noticed crows going after people so much around here, though; they seem more inclined to be guarding against the smaller hawks, who will raid nests for eggs if they can get away with it. Nesting mockingbirds are the swooping terror to watch out for in this neighborhood.

And bluejays. They’ll dive-bomb any person or animal they think is threatening their nest.

Maybe that's it, they've seen my avatar... :shifty:

I suppose that's true, re: nests, but even so, my street isn't prime nesting territory. It's a lot of blocky hotels and apartments that come right up to the sidewalk, with only a few small trees. A crow's nest would be pretty obvious.

When the researchers who had done the trapping wore a mask the crows had not seen before, one of Dick Cheney, the birds ignored them. The scientists also conducted experiments with more realistic-looking masks of people's faces and found the same results.
For the next experiment, we should all wear Dick Cheney masks and go out and harass some crows; then we can see if they take revenge on Cheney for the rest of his life.

If they're as smart as these studies suggest, they know better than to mess with Cheney. He rides bigger birds.

My only traffic ticket was because of a bird! I'm sitting at a red light, not moving, when this stupid bird goes WHACK! Stunned or something, the bird is on my windshield. All attempts to shoo away the bird failed, so I used the wipers. SWOOSH, off he goes, landing on the car next to mine. A cop car. Oops. The blue lights come on, the cop pulls me over and says, "I'm gonna have to write you up for flippin' me the bird." -Robin

I had a duck that once got trapped in a draft between my car and the truck that was driving next to me. Since I was bunched up in traffic I couldn't pull away and let the duck escape, so it was flying alongside my window for about half a mile. Poor thing was probably terrified, but eventually it flew out. It was just kind of a surreal moment.

That doesn't really have anything to do with evil birds, though, unless the duck was secretly practicing to commit a carjacking.

It may have been using the air current deliberately. It takes less effort flying when the air is carrying your forward. It's like if you drive behind a truck, and get close enough, your car gets sucked into the eddy current it's creating, allowing you to drop your clutch and free wheel. *

Ducks also like to fly in formation. Your car and the truck were others in the flock.

[*] not recommended for safe driving.

It kept trying to fly up and out of the gap, but kept getting sucked back down until about the fourth or fifth try when it finally got out. I think it was stuck.

People once believed that when someone dies, a crow carries their soul to the land of the dead. But sometimes, something so bad happens that a terrible sadness is carried with it and the soul can't rest. Then sometimes, just sometimes, the crow can bring that soul back to put the wrong things right.
